I don't quite get why anyone would pay for a slip and then still haul the boat out every day. That defeats the purpose.

We used to trailer the boat, launch it, pull it out, etc (all the things you mentioned) and it was a PITA. You see all the weekend yahoos at the boat ramps each weekend? Guys who have never backed down a trailer, guys who run into the dock, boats die at the dock, jet ski fools all around. That was enough to get on the list and get a slip. Well worth it even though the gas (same Chevron gas you buy at the station) is a bit more pricey but if you're going to owna  boat you can't go cheap on everything.

I don't get why people wouldn't use a slip they paid for either. Dumb, IMHO.

Those weekend yahoos are so annoying! But we had it down and were in/out in a matter of minutes. I liked checking out the boat everyday and keeping it clean. I also liked knowing that nobody was going to be messing with my boat when I wasn't there, too. But, to each their own.

If you can afford a 30k boat why not get a slip? Unless you take your boat to the river? Folsom Lake boating season was about 2 months last year.

I take my boat to the River. Plus, I dont want it in a slip exposed to the elements out of my eyesight.

Steve, apparently someone took it into their own hands. It looks like the back of the truck window was smashed the last couple days and the message is now gone and the glass is all shattered.

Hypocrisy from the party of tolerance? Nothing like a little destruction of private property to quash someone's first amendment rights. You don't have to agree with, but you do have to tolerate opinions other than your own. Otherwise, anarchy reigns and those with the biggest guns win.

Not conforming to what you would like and just being a PITA in general is not a crime. Vandalism is.

I hope you're not insinuating I considered it a positive thing that someone did that.

Maybe it was a neighbor who was sick of it reflecting negatively on their property value or sale desirability...

My neighbor has a large lot and actually runs a little boat and RV storage out of his house. He approached me that I could keep my boat in his covered storage FREE if I'd like. I'm assuming he's tired of looking at it. Unfortunately, his driveway angle is too steep to get the trailer up, and I politely declined, and explained my boat goes in the garage November - May.

Is this at the end of Whelan Ct?  I saw a little storage yard up there by the power lines a few years back. What does he charge? Would like to keep my toy hauler closer to home in Briggs Ranch.

I don't condone the destruction of property, but it seems that every day since the President was elected, I've had to pass that somewhat vulgar sign.

Yes sir! I think he runs it as a co-op in the neighborhood "under the radar". He told me like $75 a month or so I believe. You should introduce yourself, he only does it for the neighbors.

Nope, wasn't insinuating anything. The idea that the problem (irritating political commentary) was "taken care of" by disregard for the law, the Constitution and personal property rights disturbs me. People have the right to find offense at that which they disagree with. They do not have the right to destroy private property.

I wonder if those of you so bothered by this would have  spoken out about the property values that were affected by that couple that hung a soldier in effigy in their front yard a few years back. If I were a neighbor to them, I would have been fighting the urge to fire up the ol chainsaw. Instead, I probably would have exercised my right to park a u-haul in front of that house to block the view. Then I would have added my own protected speech on the side facing their house. You can respect others rights without respecting the person.

All that said, I wouldn't want a neighbor like either of those two tools.

First of all, I mentioned the sign only as it related to the subject of property values, not about the home owner's right to display it.

If someone were to ask about whether the soldier hung in effigy could affect the value or desirability of a property, the answer would be 'yes'.

I lived in that neighborhood during that incident and went to the "protest" one night. I come from somewhat of a military family (one who still has military family members, not just uncles who served in WWII, Korea or Vietnam) so this was important to me.

I hated the hanging soldier.

But, after talking through it with my veteran father, I loved the ability of these Americans to say their piece. My father encouraged me to show my support for what he fought for.

As I walked up to the street, I saw huge crowds on both sides. Proudly flying on one side of the street was a humongous American flag. I turned to my ex and said, "That must be our side, the side of free speech." Nope.

It's important to remember that the flag, and what it stands for, belongs to all of us.
