I was told by someone at the city that the property has been sold and the buyer/developer is forced to let Big Dip finish out the lease before he tears it down and builds his strip mall.

And maybe it can be vacant like all the other strip malls we needed.

Let me preface this by saying that Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives is one of my favorite shows. Never miss it - including reruns.
But I'd never eat that crap.
If you're ever up to a healthier version of the drive-in, many, many years ago I lived in Old Town Fair Oaks, and LOVED this place. It's worth checking out.

The Big Dip is very tragic, IMO. Such a squandered opportunity to create a 'dive' diner, and instead they serve worse-than-costco frozen patties on stale bread and label it "Fish Dhip Bur Gr".

Sadly, I fear that place will get knocked down before it gets to live another life as a classic burger joint sad.gif

Yeah but that is where I saw "Nan Fried Poodles!"

Ohhhhhh, I used to go to Whitey's back in the day! I used to work at the Monkey Ward warehouse, and we used to eat there.

So I just tried to replicate the "Captain Crunch French Toast" from a recent episode... I believe it was served at the Blue Moon Cafe in Baltimore. Anyway, it was pretty darned tasty, though (surprisingly) the kids preferred the non-Capt Crunch version. What's not to love? French toast...good; Captain Crunch... good! Yummy

We went to El Indio in San Diego; another featured restaurant on the show....It was delicious; especially the chips and chili rellenos........It's been in business since 1940.

Poor Reds BBQ sucks. Good drinks though...

Maybe it has changed from 15 yrs ago but the trick was to go to Poor Red's after rafting down the American River which makes you tired, wet and possibly hot and ready for ribs and liquor. When you enter, go straight to the back and put your name in for a table. Next order the one drink they are known for -- Golden Cadillac. Next pop a few quarters in and play Seven Spanish Angels by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson and enjoy the Golden Cadillac. Soon they will call your name and you can fill up on ribs with a few more Golden Cadillacs.

Please tell me it has not gone downhill with the new owners.
