I know some of you dont do facebook, but I was reading about an alarming situation in Folsom Chat tonight. The OP gave me permission to repost.

She lives in the same apartment complex I used to live in 4 years ago. Iron Point at Prairie City, and I'm sure some of you remember my rants from that time period.

However, this situation is apparently occurring in other complexes in Folsom also. There's a picture of a busted up car, wheels removed on a concrete landscape block! Insane.

IS A POSSIBLE BREAK IN A JOKING MATTER?
I Live in an apartment community that was broken into last night. Along with multiple automobiles being broken into our apartment was a victim of an apparent break in attempt as well.

Our community has a forum.

When we posted a request for everyone to watch out for one another, it was deleted.
When we posted it for a second time, we were called by management who argued that we were wrong for informing our neighbors about the incident that happened to our apartment at 1 am.

They joked with other residents that it seemed to them to be funny we were the only apartment who was affected.

There were multiple shards of automobile glass by my bedroom window, a stolen scree ,multiple foot prints, and numerous bent screens, as well as a large chip on our front door where it looks like someone tried to pry open our door.

What type of community makes a joke about possible break ins where their residents heard noises at their front door?

At this point I am truly ashamed to name this complex. We tried to contact corporate without luck. Our e mails are returned with a mailer daemon.

Below are the photos of the shameful acts we were told to suppress. We were yelled at and not one mention of when they would fix our missing screen, nor did they address the shards of glass from an auto that was infront of my bedroom window.

When is a possible break in a joke?
Would their corporate office stand for this behavior?

I am on Facebook, but not a member of Folsom Chat or any other closed forum.  This is a prime example of why.  If it is something that all of your friends and neighbors SHOULD see, why make posts invisible to all "non-members"!?!

I find it as bitter irony that a community that touts inclusion and claims to be actively against bullying, forms "clicks" to talk about their own community beyond the prying eyes of their neighbors.  Really promoting a sense of "community"....NOT.

Too bad, you should join anyways. Lots of good info. Folsom Chat, Folsom Watch, Folsom Residents for responsible development & panhandler alert Folsom are just some of the local groups I belong to. There's more.

All I know, is that it's closed to Folsom residents. They do moderate the posts also, and try to stop bickering which is counterproductive in a forum.

I didn't mean to hijack your topic, so I won't ramble on but I did start a conversation about it before if you want to hear me ramble on about my objections here; http://www.tomatopag...840#entry486617

On topic, a co-worker recently sold their house in EG and moved in to the Iron Point / Prairie City Apts across from the HS.  I hadn't heard about anything from them but it would be a mistake for anyone to mess with them or their stuff.  The husband is a LEO and the entire family is well trained in firearms!!  :shoot:

LEO - law enforcement officer? cop?

When I rented there (Iron Point / Prairie City Apts across from the HS), guns were specifically prohibited in the lease agreement.

I believe the incident I was quoting just occurred this week. The poster was really upset, and rightly so.

While I feel for the poster and would be just as upset, the topic of this thread says 'Increase in Crime in Neighborhoods'. I thought it would be a post about police stats showing a rise in crime.

An attempted break-in at an apartment, along with auto break-ins does not necessarily mean that our neighborhoods are showing an increase in crime.

Auto break-ins are common, and more so at apartment complexes.

As a firearms owner and a bit of collector I find this discriminatory and in violation of my rights....!    Maybe the ACLU would come to my aid if I tried to rent there....?   This has to be against some kind of law....!   To discriminate against someone who is not a criminal and just exercising a constitutional right....?   If I was "trans gender" and a gun owner I bet I could get right in and dare them to throw me out....   Anyway, I know this is not the politics section but the folly of "gun free" zones is out of control in this country due to political correctness.  We have it pretty good here in Folsom.  When I think back to all of the cities I have lived in, San Francisco, Pacifica, Redwood City, Daly City, South San Francisco I know I have it good here in regards to crime and low lifes and druggies living around me causing all sorts of mayhem.  It was not an accident that I moved here years ago to raise my family.  Chris

Isn't that a gated area?  Just wondering?

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

It did happen to me! I was burglarized years ago when living in the Bay Area. To call that an increase in crime in neighborhoods would be erroneous.

In this case, we very well may have an increase in crime in Folsom neighborhoods. I don't know.

An attempted break-in followed by insults from property management, however, is not the best evidence of such.

I don't like it when the truth is suppressed. Even if crime is NOT on the rise in neighborhoods, for the apartment management to mock the attempted break-in is ridiculous.

We see suppression of the truth more and more these days, from our own White House, to States, to local City Councils (Folsom)...and now an apartment complex?? Anyone see a trend here?

I guess if the truth is *bad news*, we should just pretend it doesn't exist?

What kind of child-like society do we live in now?

Feel free to edit the title (i already did)

Feel free to post police stats.

My understanding the recent increase in crime is it is not just at apartments.

I get the impression from many conversations that crime, however you want to describe it, IS on the increase in Folsom. That's what the chamber says per my neighbor who is active with the chamber. Folsom is a target.

Isn't that a gated area?  Just wondering?

Yes, but when I lived there, the back gates are always open...they frequently are broken, and therefore open. And its quite easy to follow someone else in when the gates do open.

Chris, I'm in total agreement with your opinion. Not much one can do if it's a condition of a lease (or employer) agreement. I now work from home so a non-issue, but my employer has rules against a gun stored in your car on company property.

2Arces, in complete agreement with your sentiments. We should be facebook friends so we can swamp stories.

Not a lawyer, but I don't think it's discrimination. You can own guns and live there, you just can't have the guns on the property.  It's private property, so they can decide whether guns or pets or semis or trampolines are allowed on the property. You are welcome to live there if you can abide by the rules they set. If you want a pet or a gun and they don't allow them, then you have the choice of getting rid of the pet or keeping your gun off-premises. That's not discrimination against you for who you are (race, sex, religion, sexual orientation.  You can be a gun owner and even a gun lover and live there; you just can 't keep your guns there. No discrimination to see here. Move along...

I agree with Steve, the title was very misleading. If there is evidence of rising crime, I'd like to see it. But one incident is not a trend.

FWIW my dads place in Roseville was just broken into on Monday.  He was only gone for an hour.  We had a rash of break-ins on Talus Ridge over the summer.  They seem to come in waves.

I grew up in this area and it sure feels like things are getting worse but its difficult to compare since the population growth in this area has exploded since I was younger.
