I think the definition of an epidemic in today's standards have become relative to listening audience' choice in belief.

PS- I believe the cops in Folsom A) hired more cops, and B) are doing a stand-up job.

Indeed

We've lived in our neighborhood for over 20 years and never had any problems. Within the last year we've had 3 homes and 5 cars broken into.

In 2 cases the Officer asked if the homeowner wanted to file an official report. They said one isn't required. They said they believe there are gangs from outside Folsom coming into town to do these types of things. They also said since the town has gotten so large, they just don't have enough officers to do any kind of sting operations without grant money.

Since the growth in drinking and increase of problems on Sutter Street, there simply isn't enough officers to handle everything that is happening.

I've lived in my neighborhood for over 13 years, and there seems to be about the same amount of incidents (very few) as when I moved here.

One of my neighbors' sons became a heroin addict, and we believe he is responsible for a few break-ins.

When I've talked to the cops about the catalytic converter thefts, they've told me that it is most often drug addicts who sell them for the precious metals inside and then go get their tweek on.

As our population increases, however, we can expect more crime. If just one percent of the population commits this time of crime, and we're over 70,000 residents now, that's 700 criminals.

I recently went through a training program with the police department. While they do have a limited budget, they are well-staffed, but like most departments, they'd like more people and more/better equipment. I think they do a great job with what they have.

Really, do you think they are coming in by light rail?

Know. Not easy to carry a load of catalytic converters

Our instance was most likely a local drug addict.

My best friends husband is a retired detective and it was his home that was broken into. They had a complex alarm system that the thieves overcame to break into the home while they were gone. They definitely knew what they were doing.

He checked with his old force and they told him there was a gang unit investigating it. He told us that they told him that there is an epidemic of crime happening around.

Another friend of ours had her house broken into and they didn't tell anyone about as they want to sell and don't want to have to disclose this theft. The point of this is we really don't know for sure whats going on in all of our neighbors houses. We may think all is well and safe, but really don't know for sure.

I know Im new on this forum, but how may posts does one have to make before I can start making snarky posts towards others without knowing the facts or asking for clarification?

We welcome you to the forum, and value your input.

I don't agree with everything said here, but one thing's for sure, people who live in Folsom seem to have a passion for it not found in more communities.

I don't think there's a snarky comment waiting period. Most start in right away.

Indeed many people have druggie relatives who steal from them. They choose not to call the police because they have a misguided believe that they are helping the family member. Or perhaps they feel the loss of the theft is worth it compared to the jail sentence of the family member.

As most homes have insurance - the value of their homes is not going to decrease from a crime unless it takes them a full year to be re evaluated for value-- so that point is quite moot. I say this because most homes in folsom do not take a year to sell.

As for snarky- there is a difference from making a point to being snarky, to just attacking and making a personal insult. Anyway, stinks your people got stole from- hope they had insurance or got their stuff back.

I was just kidding. I don't think I even know what one of those looks like...or how big it is.....When I first joined the forum the big joke seemed to be that all crime was blamed on thugs coming in on the light rail.  And there are a lot of people in Sacramento who seem to think that is why the LT evening hours are limited to & from Folsom.

This whole topic has been somewhat worrisome, as I have a Toyota SUV. It's rarely outside my garage when I'm  home, but I think of all the public parking lots where it could be targeted.
