This minister needs to be elevated  and promoted to replace Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and all the other race hustlers and poverty pimps out there.  There's a huge difference between actually caring about your community vs race baiting and fueling hatred via riots and violence to get free publicity.

This man clearly spells it all out very eloquently in his video message he created the other day. (see links below)

I don't know if he's liberal or conservative. It doesn't matter - I just know he is making sense.  And he's got some strong words for the black community. It's very obvious he really cares about his community and is willing to put himself out there and say what needed to be said to try and make things better for everyone. It's time for a real change - listen to what he says in the video below.

There are killings every weekend in Chicago but where is Sharpton and the protesters and Obama to say something about those murders?

"Al Sharpton and other opportunists do nothing more then perpetuate hate"

- Jonathon Gentry

Take the time to watch this all, it's worth the time...

Watch Johnathon Gentry on Fox news, his interview is outstanding, this man needs to be heard by the world.

Yep, he says it like it is.   I keep waiting for Karma to catch up to big Al and little Jesse.   Turns out Michael Brown is not so innocent and not so little.   Look what he did to this shop owner a few minutes before he was shot by the police.   Chris

I wonder if Obama's other son would be Michael Brown?

I always hate stories like this.  Regardless of how good or bad any person is, it hurts to see a parent in such pain from the loss of their child.  I remember my mom saying to me with tears in her eyes, "a parent should never have to bury their child."

The narrative that we've heard in the last several days is really called into question.  With the strong arm robbery possibly committed by Michael Brown and Dorian Johnson, with an active police pursuit by Officer Darren Wilson, with the key witness to the shooting being Dorian Johnson, I'm pretty comfortable to wait and just let the officials finish their investigation.

I love this guy, but unfortunately, his message doesn't appeal to the people he's trying to reach.

I think it's easy for many people, both black and white, to believe that this was another case of police harassment turning into brutality and unnecessary use of force, ending in the death of an innocent young man. We've seen the tapes of such events.

I think it's for many others to believe that this was a thug who refused to cooperate with the cops, turning to a scuffle and ending up in a justified shooting in self defense, getting what he deserved. We've seen thugs on tape, too.

Others yet, would say that the guy may have indeed been a thug and may have resisted arrest and perhaps scuffled with a cop, but that the shooting wasn't justified.

Here's what I've always told my kids and their friends: First, don't commit crimes. Second, cooperate with the police when stopped by them, whether you think they are wrong or not. Chances are it will go a lot better for you. You will never win a battle with the police.

It is quite true that black people, young black males in particular, get stopped by the cops in numbers disproportionate to the population or crime rate. It's been studied ad nauseam  It used to happen to me.

The way to deal with it, however, is not to fight the cops. You'll never win.

The kid in question may have gotten arrested, and he should have, if he was the one who roughed up the store clerk, but he'd be out on bail and alive today.

There's a lot more to this story that needs to come out, What is apparent is that Michael Brown probably wasn't shot for walking while black, The Ferguson Police Dept. Badly mismanaged the initial P.R. to the public about the incident which allowed those with agendas to get a foothold and exploit it, Most of the media have done a horrible job in their reporting being more like participants then reporters and the Ferguson Police force seems to be out of touch with the community it polices.

Nailed it.

I always chuckle a bit when I hear that young black males are confronted by police in greater fashion that white males.  I spent several years working an ambulance in Sacramento and W. Sacramento.  Guess what?  The guys that were getting shot and getting stabbed at much "greater rates" than the others were of course, young black males.  And they were being shot and stabbed by OTHER young black males.  And when I'd go to a convenience store to examine a store clerk after a robbery, 90% of the time the person robbing the place was a 'young black male'.  When I'd go to a scene for a victime of an assault or whatnot, the person doing the assaulting was a 'young black male'.  So I have to ask you......are they being targeted and accused of more crimes because they are young black males, or is it because they're the ones actually doing MORE of the crimes?

Steve. I must say I am in the camp of this guy was a punk thug strong armed thief and not "unarmed" after watching that video....!   Look at the size of this guy and what he did to that storekeeper.   Either that storekeeper is 4 feet one inches tall or this kid is (was) a very big and strong dude....!   The press says "unarmed 18 year old African American youth".     I say at 18 and that big you are a weapon if you so decide to be.   You might be able to handle this kid physically Steve but I would not stand a chance at 5'9'', 160 lbs, over 50 years old, and no black belt in anything in particular........   And what about the race thing here....?   Are East Indian/Pakistani Hindu or Muslim storekeepers who work very hard, very long, and seven days a week to feed their families and send their kids to the best schools in this country not to be mentioned....?   Should they riot too and burn stuff down....?   Where is their "Al Sharpton".....?   Just look at that video Steve and it tells a thousand stories about who this kid was and what he did to others. No saint, no saint indeed....!   To bad a whole town gets turned to burning embers over a punk thug thief because he is of one race and the cop is of another race who killed him.   Anybody hear of the White kid killed in Salt Lake City the day after this by White cops....?    Came out of a 7-11 and had earphones in his ears sitting in his car.   Cops ordered him out of his car at gunpoint, he did not hear them as he was rocking out to something.......   They killed him.   Shot him dead.   Salt Lake City is not on fire as far as I see in the news.........   Chris

I never chuckle at that, because it has happened to me and nearly every black male that I know. Being singled out in a crowd, selected, detained and asked 'where are you going?' 'what are you doing around here?' 'are you on parole?' when the only thing that distinguishes you from those around you is race, is sad, humiliating and nothing to laugh at.

I hear, 'If you didn't do anything wrong, there's nothing to worry about'. I call BS on that one. This is a free country, and we should be able to walk down the street without being accosted. Getting looks from neighbors, passers-by, and co-workers 'I wonder what he did?' as everyone else is allowed to go about their business is truly humiliating. The best advice I can give is to cooperate, answer the questions and hope it's over with quickly.

Having said that, if one dresses like a gang-banger, with baggy pants and gang colors and exhibits thuggy behavior, you should expect to be suspected and possibly introduced to your friendly neighborhood cop. I'd expect nothing less.

The problem is when your only resemblance is skin color.

If you recall, Sikhs, Italians and Mexicans were attacked after 9/11 because their attackers thought they looked like the terrorists.

I'd hate to be raising a black son today. They are first to be suspected, detained and accused, even when innocent.

Now, I am equally concerned and probably doubly pissed about the gangster/hip-hop culture that promulgates and glorifies criminal/thuggy behavior, and the false leaders who give black youth no hope and make excuses for them, even discouraging them from expecting more of themselves.

The black community is in dire need of leadership, as is the rest of our nation, and neither Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson were ever elected to represent us.

No argument to any of what you said there. How could there be? From what I've seen of the Salt Lake City shooting, the guy was no stranger to the law and it only happened yesterday.

Still, point taken.

Riots have been happening forever and occur all over the world, from China to Ireland, and it is often accompanied by looting. I'd guess that the looters are just criminal opportunists showing who they really are.

I agree, and especially about the Ireland thing......    When I saw Irish Catholics back in the 70's and 80's,  who looked like me, were of my same religion, over there,  blowing up and killing people just because they were Protestants I felt great shame and guilt.......   I hated the killers with all of my heart.....!    I could not understand such hate and wanting to kill another human being that you did not know, who did nothing to you or your family......    Kinda like this Sunni-Shia thing going on over on the other side of the world.   I can't fathom such hate for another human being based on their race or religion.   I just don't get it.   God bless the USA and what we stand for, we are not perfect at the race and religion thing but from what I see around the world we are the best at it so far and hopefully we will get better in the future.   Chris

Here's the difference:  as a young black man wearing "gangsta" clothes in a predominantly non-black neighborhood, one is probably more likely to be stopped and questioned by the police, based on crime statistics; but as a non-black person walking in an overwhelmingly black neighborhood, one is more likely to be stopped and accosted by people who are not the police, and become a crime statistic.  That's why they are known as "no-go" zones.  The harm done in the former case is psychological, but the harm done in the latter case is physical, and therefore worse.  The right in the first case is the freedom to walk down the street without being questioned; in the latter case, it's the freedom to walk down the street without being physically assaulted or worse.  Neither situation is good, but they are not remotely comparable.

In Folsom, I suspect that male teens who look and act a certain way, no matter the skin color, are more likely to be stopped by police than older people of any color who are going about their business.  Call that "ageism" and "sexism" as much as "racism".  Personally speaking, I am never uneasy around people of any color who don't dress and behave like gangstas, but I avoid those who do.

And in San Bruno I was stopped more than 20-30 times back in the day and given more than my share of BS fix it tickets and moving citations, San Mateo many times too, told to "get out of town" by the obligatory white motorcycle cop with the shades and the brown mustache with the expressionless face................  Millbrae too.........     Pacifica, at least 30 times...........   Half Moon Bay, Montara more than I can count.   Me, White guy, young and dumb and in a car that stood out.............   Sorry,  I know driving while black gets a lot of attention but why was I stopped so many times and treated so poorly, totally like a piece of dirt......  It is just what they do, not what you look like.   They just tried to get me to jump and fight back with them with their crappy attitude and accusations........    All I said was "Yes Sir",  "No Sir" and kept my hands on the steering wheel with no sudden moves..........  Light on in the car so I would not get shot.  Asked permission before reaching for the glove box.     Lessons learned to make it to another day.   Told my sons to beware of this and make no challenges to the ones with the badge, the gun, and the crappy attitude..........   Be polite at all costs to them.  Not all of them are like this but more than I would like to admit.   Very sad.   Not a race thing, I think it is a power trip on their part in my opinion............    Chris

What kind of car did you have that stood out?

I never once had such an experience, growing up in the Bay Area, driving my old '63 LeSabre.
