What truth? From a convicted gambler who admitted to fixing games? How does he know the truth about what transpired regarding games he did not ref?

Me too, still am a Laker fan - there I said it
yeah, that game was rigged, most playoff games are - ever wonder why a team that should sweep a series seems to lose one or two games to keep the series going? - they purposely extend series - so that the leagues can make more money off adverstising and seat sales.
that said, I was ok with the lakers winning that one - because I had made a sizeable bet while in Vegas at the time just to go against some fellow co-workers who were from Sacto - it was a Sacto vs LA rivarly...and needless to say I was happy I won - go Lakers! hehe (ducking now..)

Its amazing that people actually give this guy any credibility regarding anything he says.
This guy was a veteran ref, an insider. He knew what was going on. That he's been defrocked and is singing like a canary doesn't make what he said untrue, or incredible.
He didn't name names, he merely described a series in which the league wanted the series to go 7 games. Think about it, if you were getting paid millions for doing something, wouldn't you repeat it as often as possible? The league made many millions more in advertising revenue from the series continuing.
He described the action, and we could come to only one conclusion: the Kings vs. Lakers. We all saw that game and were amazed at the blatant manipulation by the refs.
learn some class from san Antonio and stop complaining and focus on the future. If you bury yourselves in the past, you will NEVER EVER come close to that dream team of Vlade, Christie, Bibby, CWebb, Jackson et all.
This isn't about holding on to the past. This is a case where someone else, a game official, brought it up. Millions of people saw that game and I'd bet that a good number of them, when hearing the news last night jumped up shouted, "I KNEW IT!" (maybe that was just me).
Now, NBA fans all over the country will be saying, "Remember when _______ beat ______ and the refs weren't making the calls? Remember how we said it was fixed? This proves it!"
And, by the way, San Antonio fans have indeed questioned whether the fix was in against them.
The NBA tries to promote a squeaky clean image, but fans have suspected and seen for years how some teams and some players get away with stuff that is clearly against the rules.
It ain't the end of the world, but it sure explains a lot.

I think someone who admitted to fixing games might just actually know about games that were fixed. He's got more of an inside track that you or I do.
Methinks he's not going to be the only one talking about his game. If it's the truth, it'll come out. IMO that process is just starting now.

Seems like all I notice is the hip-hop thuggery of the NBA.
Squeaky clean?? Not in my opinion. Just the opposite...

Nope ... Mike Bibby was called for fouling Kobe's elbow with his face.

All this just makes me happy I no longer have season tickets. I will no longer support overpaid crybaby entertainers. The sports aspect of the game ends in college.

no way! seriously? he did not get called for deliberately smacking his elbow in Bibby's face like that? unbelievable...
maybe they should allow fighting in the NBA like they do in hockey, that way the kings can get some payback time heh

Maybe all of you who feel the Kings got screwed could share your experience of playing and understanding of the rules of basketball?
I'll start, I've been playing for about 40 years, have coached for about 25 years for hundreds of games, been asked to scout teams, assisted at basketball camps, have been to a number of referee clinics, assisited with training at referee clinics and refereed litereally hundreds of games. I was also the President of a basketball league.
I'm going to go out on a limb and claim I think I'm qualified to make an honest assessment of a referee's preformance during a game.
Its pretty common knowledge amongst those who understand the game that teams who play aggressively on offense...i.e. that take the ball to hole instead of taking jump shots or fade away shots will get fouled more often and will shoot more free throws. During the game in question, the Lakers were clearly more aggressive in taking the ball to the hole and in getting the ball into Shaq in the paint. Anyone with any knowledge of the game would understand that the Lakers would get fouled more than the Kings and shoot more free throws.
John, referenced a play where Bibby got elbowed in the mouth. If he is describing the play where the Lakers were inbounding the basketball under their own basket. The facts are Bibby did NOT have position as Kobe was attempting to break around him. Clearly you can see where Bibby is sliding his right foot and then leaning his body to the right to try and block Kobe from breaking. This was a very easy call for the Refs to make and the correct call. I'm confident 90% of the NBA refes would agree.
Maybe ESPN will replay the game and review some of the questionable calls with retired Refs and explain to the fans why the call was correct or not. If so you will see by and large the game was called fairly and the Lakers beat the Kings as they were the more aggressive team.
This is a common trait amongst champions
Those of you who want to believe a convicted criminal who was betting on games over facts, I can't probably help you.
BTW, I HATE the Lakers and am a Kings fan.

Who cares? Athletes get paid a immoral sums of money to play sports. Are they good at their jobs? Sure. But so are many a teacher. Many a policeman. Many a fireman. Many a doctor/nurse. Many other vocations that add much more value to society and yet are paid immoral sums in the other direction.
We're a nation of athletes and entertainers. When will we go back to our roots of science and innovation -- areas that made this country great to begin with? We started with the cotton gin. Mass production. Division of labor. Innovations and discoveries in science and technology like the PC. All of the great value we produced as a nation seems to be coming much more slowly now as we reward the softer areas of life.
The Rule of 3 in business applies to the global social/economic landscape. How will the we remain in the top 3 in 50 years? 100 years? Will we?
Okay -- start flamming me.....
