It'll be in Sacramento on Saturday for the prologue. This is not a bad thing, it's a good thing. I'll be there watching and then following it to Davis, Santa Rosa, Sausalito, Half Moon Bay and San Jose and then over the Altamont. Should be a lot of fun. smile.gif

Yeah, bummer, it will bring tons of people to town and pump a ton of money into the local economy.

maybe-maybe not.

most people tend to go out and watch//and bring a sandwhich.

Not a large spike of money increase in the cities for events like this.

Most money making events --sports related--are at arenas.

But, ok---

Thank god I won't be needing to go to downtown this weekend.

Aside from that (as I know I am biased about exhibitions on city streets)

Does anyone think it ironic that a has been, and a steroid user, is the cities main event attration for what the city calls a healthy lifestyle attraction__aka___a bike race?

Don't you think they should be at least naming other people that will be in the race?

Afterall, there are going to be at least a hundred entrants, right?

How about some facts to back that up?

No, Brown has a point... you are very anti-this sort of stuff so how DO YOU know what people do at these events.

No, sounds like you are the one getting upset. You don't like it, just say that, instead of stating 'facts' that are obviously false. Truth is towns compete for this kind of thing, for the income as well as the notoriety, in this case worldwide notoriety.

no, I'm not upset---yeah, I have gone to this "sort of stuff"

Cities may compete--or may not---

But the cost to the city far outweighs what large chain corporations may receive as income.

Like hotels and flights. (BTW--only the people who have a very specific interest in this race are going to fly in and watch the race in Davis or Sacramento).

More likely, scouts, and future racers will be closer to the end of the race--where the true test of stamina is_________but you prolly didn't think of that....

As far as local city revenue....what? a bunch of people are gonna find a mom and pop restaurant and eat there---cause it's local cuisine? Bwha ha ha ha ha----freakin-bean sprout and curd eatin davis restaurants?

Golly---maybe I should think before I automatically spout off--just cause Supermom says she is glad she won't be in Sacramento when the race is going on........

From: http://www.sacbee.co...ry/1609613.html

Besides Landis and Armstrong, there's two-time race champion Levi Leipheimer from Santa Rosa, as well as 2008 Olympic road race champion Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland. Last year's Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre of Spain is here, and Italy's Ivan Basso is back from his own drug suspension.

Because he would just be one of "the pack" riders and that is some seriously boring stuff.
