Because he would just be one of "the pack" riders and that is some seriously boring stuff.

It would level the playing field if people stopped noting the "wins" of riders who have "positive" drug testing in their sport records.

Let em race--but don't give them places.

sort of letting the whole world know that "zero tolerance" is actually meant.

I think the ride is super exciting! I want to take the kids to watch!

When I was young I lived in Carmichael, and they have a Foot race (don't remember the name, but it goes down Fair Oaks Blvd. And every year we got up early and begged my mom/dad to take us over there (1 street over) to watch! Well, till I was like 8 or 9 and was magically old enough to go there by myself!

Either way it was super fun to cheer for the people racing. IT IS FUN! I still like it.

Chris are we going to watch them ride??!!

I don't get the negativity about the Tour of California in this thread. Bike racing is a huge deal in Europe and this is the biggest bike race in the US. Most of the communities that are hosting the event (start, finish, prologue, time trial) are thrilled with it. It is no more disruptive than a marathon or a 10K or other race or charity event. But, because it brings out big names and celebrities, it brings in big $. If you don't enjoy the events, stay away from the venues for a day, no big deal! But overall, get a grip! smile.gif

Having lived in Davis for eight years I think Davis is embracing this event! Davis is a big bicycle community. I miss the days when I could ride my bike all over the city because it was FLAT! Folsom is a nice community, but it isn't a friendly, relaxing, and enjoyable bicycle community in large part because of the terrible hills.

So cycling is only fun if it's easy?

Terrible hills?! wacko.gif

The horror of it all, Folsom isn't flat rolleyes.gif

With the miles & miles of fairly flat bicycle trails over most of this town, I fail to see how a few subdivisions being in slightly hilly terrain makes this town unfriendly towards bicyclists.
I thought most cyclists liked a workout and the hills definitely help with that, but I can do a fairly flat 5 mile loop in the Parkway and I'm just hitting a small area of our town.
I would rather be Backpacking

"The Tour of California has evolved into one of the largest and most prestigious stage races in the United States. It draws many of the top cyclists in the world, including numerous Tour de France contenders, and generates an average of $100 million for the state."

Not a large spike of money increase in the cities for events like this.

Most money making events --sports related--are at arenas.

I would rather be Backpacking

I go to the big hill on Iron Point near Costco for fun... that is a killer hill.

Now there's a quote to shoot down supermom's:

For the state.

Break it down.

To local mom and pop joints.

Not chains. Not flights.

Subtract time and money lost on ordinary citizens.

Subtract time and money lost on local businesses that have to close.

Add in--taxes and fees levied on the AMGEN tour association.

How does this help the local economy?

$100 million in revenue

but obviously nothing is going to appease you or change your mind.

In some ways, you remind me of my wife, she gets all upset and irate when anything disturbs her normal routine. My wife, the only person I know that owns a cellphone, and hates it when people call her on it.

That pretty much was the attitude in the thread topic.

Weren't you paying attention, before opening the thread?

Just like any other thread-or poster-----for or against something.
