Visitors to Sutter Street will soon have 3 choices for Mexican food:

Hacienda Del Rio, which was closed several weeks ago due to a fire, will undergo extensive repairs caused by the fire, water and age of the building, and will reopen in 3 months, according to the manager, 'better than ever'.

Q'bole is moving this summer from it's current location at 705 Gold Lake Drive, by the Lake Natoma Inn to 718 Sutter, upstairs next to Lockdown Brewing Co.

Also coming soon is the Sutter Street Taqueria, planning to open this summer at 727 Sutter, replacing the Karma Cafe.

That's strange.  Isn't that location much smaller for Q'Bole?  Also isn't it dooooom?

I think the new space gives Q'bole much better visibility, and as far as space is concerned, it comes with a large deck for outdoor seating.

I haven't seen the place full in years, so I don't think it will be a problem.

Any word on the rest of the businesses in the building, Pizzeria Classico in particular?

I was at the Maribou over by the new Raley's today and they said there's no date for returning.

A friend of the Real Estate group said they have moved permanently.

The voice message at Classico says they will reopen as soon as they have power, but didn't say when that would be.

In the mean time,    Casa Ramos is opened on Iron Point Road at the Outlets.      Really good food,  good prices,   friendly service and the Owners are putting a lot of effort in the place.    Ran into many  former Sol Aztecas' customers.    They have a dish special for two on week nights.  Check it out.

We like cafe Ramos too. Good authentic chile rellanos. And I like their ranchero beans, although the owner likes the refried beans better. Their tostadas and tostada salad are expensive and skimpy however, so I miss that option. They barely put any cheese or other ingredients in them other than a ton of shredded lettuce. For close to $9 I want some protein. But the setting is nice, fajitas are good, there Are decent options for sure.

I tried the place twice and I wasn't impressed. I had a coupon from the highschool and the manager gave me a very difficult time when I wanted to use it. I was with my parents and I haven't been back since. That was probably two or three years ago too! There are better Mexican food places where my parents live in the Central Valley.

I'll be interested in trying the taqueria going in . . . sometimes small business has better food.

My experiences at Casa Ramos weren't bad, but they weren't stand outs either. You would think Mexican food would be easy to nail, but most don't get it right.

My wife's late grandmother was a wonderful lady and magical in the kitchen. Her version of staples such as rice, beans, and salsas  were better than any I've had in restaurants. Come to think of it, those are the main things I judge a Mexican restaurant on.

Either they fail on the beans (dry or pasty or over-salted or greasy), or the rice (orange, flavorless, dry), salsas (tasting like ketchup, or having no heat, or having wayyyy too much heat). No one seems to get it all right.

So, the one that has consistently delivered IMO, is La Fiesta.  I do like Q'bole's green rice, and at Hacienda, I ask for the regular (ketchup) and super hot salsas and mix them together.

My wife comes pretty close, but we do mostly low-fat or fat free stuff, and they just don't have that authenticity.

I'm really looking forward to Sutter Street Taqueria. It will be great to have a casual eatery like that on the street. I hope they're open late, too.

We had dinner at Casa Ramos this evening and on Thursdays they have live Mariachi Music.   Here is the Mariachi Band making the rounds.    The Band Played and sang as a group with some of the members singing solo.

Good to know about the new places. That's a great move for Q'bole, much better location!

Personally my favorite Mexican restaurant is Fillipes

My favorite in town is currently La Fiesta. Most authentic, very fresh meats, closest to what I remember living in San Francisco (where great taquerias are a-plenty).

My favorite sit-down places are El Pueblo (other side of the river next to Pete's), and Mexquite. At Mexquite, I stick to the Shrimp Burrito (which is served on a plate with really good sauce), the guac (which is very fresh), and the mole.

I'm really anxious to see Sutter Street Taqueria will be like. They say they are going for high authenticity. I hope that means fresh tortillas made to order, because that's a rarity here though it's something I've found in certain places in the Central Valley. A tortilla made to order makes a bigger difference than you think in the taste of the food. Even if they don't do that, they still might be pretty amazing. I hope so.
