Dear Citizens of Folsom,

I am Sean, a student of Folsom High School, and I created a club called the FHS MicroBank. Essentially, we gather donations and loan the money to small businesses in developing countries. These businesses range from a family in Rwanda trying to start a small shop to a single mother in Samoa running a sugarcane farm. The businesses then use the loan in order to support themselves and their families, essentially lifting them out of poverty. Over a period of a couple months, the loan is repaid (without interest as this is a charitable cause) and we give the money to another small business around the world. What makes this program so great is that any donation essentially becomes part of an infinite loop empowering people across the world.

Money this charity receives is given through Kiva, a non-profit specifically made to administer micro-loans, which handles giving the money to the small businesses and collecting the loans at the end. You can visit the website at https://www.kiva.org/lend to see inspiring stories of people trying to make a better life for themselves.

I am asking for donations in any amount. All donations, whether given personally or through a business, are tax deductible. If you donate through a business, we would be more than happy to list you as a sponsor throughout social media. If you would like more information or to see us in person, my team and I would be more than happy to oblige. Thank you for your time.

And why wouldn't you give straight to KIVA.COM ?

We do and have for over 5 years now.
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Obviously the end result in the same, except for three major advantages. First, it will encourage high school kids to think about economics, as we will decide as a club which small business to donate to using economic reasoning and principles. Second, donations to the high school will increase its prestige and chance for receiving grants, all of which improve the local community. Lastly, the club will be able accumulate large amounts of money from donations in order to fully fund a small business. Often times a small business falls short of their fundraising goal, but the MicroBank could solve that problem by donating the entire amount they need.

You can either write a check to Folsom High School and hand it to us personally or through the school mail, or give us a Kiva gift card through this link https://www.kiva.org...crobank#/lender
