FOLSOM, Calif. (KCRA) —An inmate was shot by a correctional officer and three others were hurt Monday in an incident at California State Prison-Sacramento in Folsom, officials said.

The four inmates were involved in an incident about 10:25 a.m. at the new Folsom prison.

One inmate suffered a gunshot wound from a correctional officer's weapon and a second suffered multiple stab wounds, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Both inmates were taken to hospitals outside the prison.

Two other inmates suffered minor injuries and were treated on site.

Officers said they recovered three inmate-made stabbing weapons after the incident.

No additional details were released.

I went on a tour of the prison some years ago. I remember there was one area of the yard kind of blocked from the guards' view. The public info officer said that that area was where most of the inmate assaults occured. I asked why they didn't have cameras there. She said, 'It's not in the budget'.

They call it population control.

A few weeks ago one inmate took a dive off of the 5th tier inside the prison. But the dummy didn't even know how to do that right and it took him 4 days to die!

Well, I guess they will have to spend a bunch of money to construct nets so they can't jump to their deaths...only in California... <_<

those prisoners are really living a hellish existence.  there by their own cause, but still.  its a horrible life.

Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

What is amazing to me is the recidivism rate.

I spoke with an old retired guard once. He told me that guys would get out and swear they'd never come back. He said they'd go home, spend a week with their wife or girlfriend, have a party with the boys, and a couple of weeks later, they're broke and unemployed, and someone suggests they go get some money.

When I was on a tour there, they were some new 'fish' being marched through. Some guys in their cells recognized some of the guys and started yelling things like 'Hey man! What's up!', 'Welcome back!'

Yes, and I'm glad they are, because I can guarantee that most of their victims are living a hellish existence too...that is *IF* the victims are still alive!

Don't forget the victims...

Many ex-cons prefer life on the inside, and make sure they get caught again so they can return. In many ways, it's much easier than real life.
