If you need to commute to or from Sacramento International via a public service, you may want to review your options carefully before choosing a shuttle service.

During a recent trip, I decided to use the service which is exclusively recommended by Sacramento International, because they featured an on-line reservation system.

My incorrect assumptions included:
  1. A service listed on the airports website would be quick, dependable, efficient
  2. The service would use safe, comfortable vehicles
  3. I could expect to be on my way home from the airport in a reasonable amount of time

I don't know why the "service" offers reservations at all, unless it's to provide their clients with something to do to pass the time. The service person in the shuttle booth stated that all transportation is on a first come, first served basis, and that he had no idea how long our wait might be. Travelers who simply walked up to the service booth acutally received service much quicker than my group and me.

Although a sign posted on the shuttle service booth states that the maximum waiting period is 30 minutes, our waiting period was almost an hour from the second time I notified the service person that we had arrived, and had picked up our luggage.

I found a white service phone in the terminal, which allows travelers to connect to various airport services. Although it posts a listing for the shuttle service described herein, no connection could be made - the phone simply rang and rang, with no answer, no recording, nada, zip, zilch.

After finally being loaded in to a shuttle van, I was not impressed with its condition. The windshield had a crack which extended over half the length of the windshied, the van could have used a good cleansing, and the front suspension had a vibration that shook the front passenger seat as if were possessed. I noted that the drivers arm vibrated at approximately the same frequency as the front passenger seat, and the vibration could be felt by the passengers as well. The vibration seemed to lessen at a certain speed, then resume to full-force at or near the speed limit. I hoped that a front tire was out of balance, or out of round, and that it wan't actually loose on the lug bolts, as we proceeded down Highway 50 at, or near, the speed limit.

Another service available in the Folsom area is Folsom Lake Express. I've used their services several times over the past few years, and the service, quality, courtesy, and punctuality have all been first-rate.

The service provided by the airports recommended shuttle was a learning experience....I learned that I won't be using it again.....

Things like that just add more stress to the flyign process. Frustrating, I am sure.

Funny story, I had to fly into Vegas for a meeting one summer. I had to put in a couple of hours at the office before leaving. I called ahead to a shuttle service, which confirmed that they could take me to my hotel, which was close to the airport. I pre-paid to ensure I could hit the ground running and get to my hotel quickly.

First off, the shuttle service neglected to inform me that they stop at several hotels before mine, and since mine is close to the airport, they hit it on the way back.

Second, the shuttle was packed and hot. Someone requested air conditioning. The driver obliged, but it was blowing hot air. When folks complained, he said, "That's why I didn't have it on. I guess it takes time to get going."

After a couple of minutes, someone shouts, "Hey! You've got it on HEAT! Turn the dial to the BLUE SECTION!"

I got to my meeting, but hot and mean.

We used Folsom Airporter (983-7257) when we took our cruise last summer. When you book with them they take your flight information and track whether your returning flight is on time -- and adjust accordingly. They were on time, clean, comfortable, airconditioned and professional. I'd use them again and, obviously, highly recommend them.

Funny story! I could feel your pain!

Every time I've use the Folsom Airporter, they have been punctual, polite, and provided excellent service. I saved about $10 by using the "the other service" - a very bad decision on my part.....

We've also used Folsom Lake Express several times and have had nothing but excellent service. It sure is darned expensive to do a round trip to Sac airport, but if you're away for 2 weeks, it's still cheaper than parking.

I just returned from a two week vacation with my family of four and I used the Folsom Airporter shuttle service to SMF. I strongly recommend it specially when travelling with your family. The service is top rated when compared to the blue airporter van. You get a van exclusively to your reservation, and they will wait at the airport when you arrive.

In the past, to save a couple of dollars, I used the blue airporter van (can't remember their name) and the van got stranded twice out of four times. The first time the transmission blew out just half a mile after being picked up (I made my flight). The second time, the van overheated after two stops of dropping passengers (we got home 3 or 4 hours after leaving the airport). My experience has all been bad when returning from the airport, especially a long wait at the airport and then a 60 minute or more ride in a van fully packed dropping off passengers at their homes).

If you are looking for an adventure weirdsmiley.gif in your next trip, go with the blue airporter van and you will sure have one.

Cheers.

On those lines, I am planning to park my car in the airport for a couple of days and was wondering how safe it is? I do kow that in AZ some rental car companies allow you to park for 3-4$ more than the normal daily parking charge but are very safe... Any ting like that in Sac?
