Beware of the Sports Authority 'sale'. I've been buying my running shoes there for years, so I generally know what to expect.

I went there yesterday, and running shoes that they used to sell on sale for $70, are now marked up to $99, and offered at a 30% discount, bringing the price back to $70.

They are selling Lugz brand shoes, which I've never seen them carry. Also, selling Aqua Socks for $30, which usually cost about $10 at Walmart. They even have men's dress shirts.

There's a sign saying 'New Merchandise Arriving Daily!'

So, I asked one of the employees, who was wearing a 'Sports Authority' shirt, and he said, 'We're no longer Sports Authority. We've been taken over by a liquidation company, and a lot of what we have is stuff they've bought from other companies or that they've had stored in a warehouse.'

Maybe there are some bargains there, but I didn't see much to write home about.

I agree. In the past, their typical sales, plus coupons that were always available, were much better than the "going out of business sale."

Their shoe clearance rack in the back is a joke. Even employees have commented to me they barely even mark them down. Im kind of done with SA. Probably better if they just close their doors.

As a matter of personal policy, I avoid going-out-of-business sales like the plague. They are all like this. When a major chain shuts down, they always hand it all over to a liquidator whose entire business model is to take advantage of impulse buyers and play mental tricks on people to get the absolute maximum profit they can for the goods. Keep in mind, they don't have a brand name or image to protect like an established business. It's rape, pillage, and run for them. There's no downside to making customers angry because they'll be gone in a month.

Don't do it.
