An interesting turn in the Kings/Lakers feud... Vlade Divac look to sign with the Lakers after a 6 year run with the Kings.

So much for loyalty! I honestly don't get it. He says it's just a business deal and he has to do what's right for his family. Now I don't know about you guys but I can easily live on $2.5 million dollars but I guess the $5 mil is just to tempting to resist? The sports world is spoiled!!!!!! thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif All of this when people were starting to think that with Shaq gone the Kings could dominate the West! The sad part about it is that we don't have a lot of money to work with to bring in a back up for Miller. This certainly will be an interesting season! Any more surprises out there?

It's pretty hard to preach loyalty to a player who's been traded once and left for the scrap heap another time, particularly when you're only offering half the money as several other teams.

I don't care if you're talking pesos, Euros, greenbacks, or monoploy money, I know there are very few of us who would stay with our current employer if they were only paying half the money of a guaranteed offer from someone else.

Ok...Vlade's gone. Very sad... BUT!!!

Who are we going to have start at center??? Miller is a F/C but I don't think he's going to start at C going into 04/05.

Here's the current signed roster.... no C in sight:

Bibby PG
Christie SG
B. Jackson PG
Kevin Martin G
Miller F/C
Ricky Minard SG
Songaila PF
Peja SF
Webber PF

Brad Miller will start, he's a 2X All Star!

Songalia should back him up. Our once-deep roster is certainly no longer that. I like Songalia though...

I wish Vlade stayed but money is money. Our biggest reason he was an asset was that he was a great defender against Shaq. Now we will likely only see Shaq 2x a year, and the Heat are not making the NBA Finals, with or without Shaq.

Lakers should be a playoff team, though a 6/7/8 seed, one and done every year.

As much as I love Vlade, if he wasn't willing to give up a three pack a day smoking habit to help his team, finally, win a championship, he's not worth $5 million. I could never understand how an athlete could get paid so much $$$ to preform physical feats yet take such little care of themselves.

If the Lakers want to pay $5 mil to watch him lumber up and down the court, I guess that's their right. I'm still going to miss him though.

Wow! That was fast. As soon as Vlade said his goodbyes, the Kings signed Ostertag (Utah Jazz) as a back up up Miller. This is all just too weird for me. I can't even imagine him as a King.

What do you all think?

I am very sad to see Divac go. It will be interesting to see what happens in the locker room this season. Vlade was supposedly the one who kept the team toghether, so well see how much truth the was to that. I think statistically Divac and OStertag are similar to veterans a little past their prime but still putting up solid numbers. It sucks Vlade left but come on leaving a guaranteed 5 million on the table thats alot of money even to someone who makes millions. Assuming well make an average of 3 millions dollars in our lifetime that would be the equal to somewhere around 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars depending on how you play with the numbers. I was assuming Vlade would make 50 to 60 million in his. I personally would jump at the opportunity especially if it was my last 2 years of working that i could make that extra 3 or 4 hundred thousand.

I never liked Ostertag, but I guess I'll tolerate him for a while. I really would have liked to see Vlade retire as a King.

I'm with you, John!

The difference between the two, so I've read, is that Vlade was an offensive player. Most of the plays ran thru him and he could score if he needed to. Ostertag is a defensive player. Strong under the boards and maybe that's a good thing. As Ostertag put it, the Kings already have enough players who can score. Plus Ostertag is only 31.

I'm not liking it, but I'm living with it!

My only concern is whether he will be able to handle the quick passes his teammates will be dishing out. As I recall, he has hands of stone.

Today, Vlade said that he was offered more money by the Suns and Clippers, but, "I'm a Laker".

I cringed to hear that. Now, I can hate him again.

It's a fact of pro sports fandom (is that a word?), that when one of your boys goes to the enemy, he is to be treated as an enemy. You can respect him, but you can't like him, root for him, or wish him success.
