The Folsom Fire Department put out a fire at was the old library at 300 Persifer St. this morning.  It was also formerly a fire station and named the Marvin May building.

Badly damaged?

The Folsom Telegraph has a few photos that look like mostly exterior damage.  That building had been empty for quite a while.  When it was the library it had a lot of flooding problems when it rained so it probably wasn't in that great of shape inside to begin with.  The article says the city still owns it, but I thought it was going to be developed into homes.

Edit:  It looks like there was a study done in October 2016 to rezone the property and raze the Marvin May building to divide it into five 7,000 sq. ft. lots for single family homes.

That makes sense because 300 Persifer is on next week's city council agenda

to authorize payment to contractor to raze the building.

Cheaper to clean up after a fire???

Dense "urban" housing??   Of course, that's why changes are being made to local sewer pipes.

Everything gets more dense, and city doesn't tell us what happens to $$$$ proceeds from

sale of this city land.    ????

A year ago, or so, there was an item on the Folsom City Council Agenda about building housing in that area. I think they were

going to take that building down and build a bunch of housing in that area and the parking lot.

What kind of housing? More subsidized housing for the historic district?

There is a sign posted to raze the building.  Maybe it would have saved some money to just let it burn?  Seems fitting for a building that was a former fire station to be used as a training fire, although this isn't the time of year to do it.  Our air quality is already not great. Do fire departments still do that?

I wonder if the city could put a plaque in the sidewalk commemorating it was the city of the Marvin May Fire Station and the Folsom Public Library.

As for the large pipes they have laying on the corner of Sutter Middle School, I've wondered why so large myself.  I don't think it's for this particular rezone.

Everything I've seen says single family.  I'm more worried about a fire bug.  Hopefully, it was just accidental.  The damage looks like it's on the corner where the electrical panel was.
