I am always thinking 14th Amendment, equal treatment under the law....... Then again I am thinking religious freedom. Have all these gay activists ever bothered to visit a Muslim bakery to ask them to make them a cake....? A Kosher bakery in New York....? I think not....... I think they have targeted very Christian bakers in an effort to bring court cases and break these bakers, financially of course, with their deep pocket backing, put them out of business..... And then again I think no cakes for black people, no cakes for Catholics.....? This is gonna be a tough one......... Got to be a middle ground somewhere.........? Interesting case. Chris
Looks like distorted perceptions to me, Chris.
The gay couple that went to the baker were not "activists." They were looking for a cake.
They were truly surprised to be rejected because the cake decorator felt offended.
What?! Offended that a gay couple don't deserve his wonderful creation?
That somehow the offering of his service offends his religion?
No, this is a clear, prima facie case of hatred and intolerance on the part of the baker.
Yes, an interesting case.
So, where would you draw the line?
An evangelical Christian car salesman doesn't want to sell a Subaru to a gay couple?
A Jewish grocer doesn't want to sell pork to a Christian?
An Arab rug salesman doesn't want to sell a carpet to a Jewish customer?
Besides, the basic argument is flawed.
If the cake is a product: equal treatment means he should sell it to anyone.
If the cake is a work of art, intended to be framed, not eaten, does that make a difference?
An art collector who wants the work should not be denied because he is gay or a Hindu, or whatever.
Meanwhile, all these references to "big buck leftists" is really ironic, considering
it's the GOP that flexes it's financial muscles.
Here we are on the brink of the GOP caving in to the big buck lobbyists to change
the tax code to favor the wealthiest Americans, to give welfare to the fattest
corporations, and that screws the middle class big time to favor the top 1%.
60% of the tax benefits in this bill go to the top 1%.
40% goes to the top 1/10th of 1%.
Elite argument falls apart.
