I can't really answer the poll because the options for no were a bit odd and none apply to me.

The "no" options are: 1) I hear they are dangerous  2) I or someone I know got sick after getting one 3) I don't like needles.

Those answers kinda label anyone who chooses the "no" option as paranoid or afraid of the shot. No?

I don't get the shot because I don't need it - I've never gotten the shot and have never gotten the flu.  Plus the past few years I heard they picked the wrong strain to infect people with and it didn't work against the current strain.  Seems kinda pointless because it's nearly impossible to predict a future flu strain from everything I've read so it's really just a guess.

If you can get one at Walgreen's next to the "As seen on TV" isle then you really should question it.

Nomad, thanks confirming my suspicion that toothpaste is a scam.  I mean, how can you trust any product sold in the same store as Snuggies?  I will never brush my teeth again!  And when I go in for my next dental checkup in 6 months, I'll tell my dentist thaI am appalled that he would ever recommend such as product! :)

Your levity actually has some truth to it. Your teeth don't need toothpaste at all. You need to floss and keep your gums healthy. The teeth will be fine without the paste but your breath may not!

No, I haven't had one since 1995. I can't even remember the year I last had the flu. I remember where I was (job interview in Merced which I didn't get), but I don't remember exactly when it was...I'm thinking sometime pre-1990.

I know four RNs who all say they just don't want to screw with their immune systems, so they dont get it.

Now you know 5 :) but my reason isn't exactly that. I believe there are other ways to prevent the flu by strengthening the immune system, and it has certainly worked for me for 25+ years. :)

I wouldn't say that the shot itself is a scam, but convincing everyone that they need it is as much a scam as all the other drugs companies that try to convince you and your doctor that are needed.  It may be beneficial for certain groups, but for healthy people with normal immune systems, you are just as likely to get the flu or not get the flu whether you get the shot or not.  There's a lot of number manipulation to try to determine some statistical efficacy of the shot, but in reality it is nearly impossible to determine for many reasons.

I got it for three years after my first child was born because the doctors really push it.  I got the flu every one of those years after not having the flu in the previous 10+ years.  The last two years I have not had the shot, but the rest of my family has.  They have all been sick and I have not.  I'm not saying that the shot caused any illness, but it sure in the hell doesn't seem to stop it enough to make it worth it.

dagnabbit. I changed it to just 'yes' or 'no', and click the button to save, but it doesn't.

Yes. I don't like having the flu, every little bit helps, and my employer gives them out for free.

Exactly!  Every little bit helps.  I too get them for free through my insurance.

I saw on the news this morning the H1N1 flu killed four people down in Texas and about four states down there are having a flu outbreak.  H1N1 is included in this years vaccine.

I think the best advice for everyone is to wash your hands often and don't touch your face (good luck on that one).

For those of you who think flu shots are a scam, good luck.  Hope you don't get this year's version.  I am so glad I have been getting the shots every year.
