Having to put a case on a phone is not a fix. It is a band-aid.

Zero dropped calls, this band-aid's been working pretty good, no year long ongoing complaints here. Posted Image

I am glad it works for you, but a phone should not require a case to be functional.

Can we talk about problems with the new one (which has a new antenna design) and not the old problems from 15 months ago? I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of real data speed and would gladly have thrown away the dorky voice software and memory-hogging camera to get it.

Can you imagine being at the (embarrassing specialist)'s office, in front of all the other people in the waiting room, and announcing into your phone, "Phone! Schedule me an appointment for an (embarrassing procedure) on November the 22nd with a reminder one hour ahead and another reminder one day ahead!"

Agreed. The antenna appears to be fixed now. I understand not having 4G speeds from AT&T since their 4G network is non-existent, but why not Verizon or Clearwire? They have large 4G networks that cover nearly every metro area. That, IMHO, is the biggest let-down. Yes, it is capable of being somewhat faster with AT&T, but their network is so sketchy it does not really matter.

The other new features sound great during a presentation but do not really add much to the phone. It reminds me of Facetime.

Apple is reporting Steve Jobs died today. RIP. Best wishes for his family.

I agree about lack of 4G and that the voice software and high res camera aren't really compelling enough to make me want to go out and upgrade, maybe they're waiting for that for the iphone5? ...or waiting for AT&T to catch up...?

Good point about the camera. Why are cell manufacturers cramming 5 or 8 or 12 megapixel cameras behind a fuzzy piece of plastic on a cell phone? The sensor (what records the data) far exceeds the sharpness that a piece of plastic (the lens) is capable of by a magnitude of 2-3x.

The only dropped call I have had with the iPhone 4 was once when I was talking to my mom while driving on the Folsom Crossing near the lake and Natoma Street. I have Verizon and I also have my phone in a case for protection rather than for antennae performance. :P

Do you have a case on your phone?

Two dropped calls here. Always happen at the same spots LOL: first is over on natoma street by the prison and the other is over on white rock rd (right under the cell phone towers LOL).
Other than that no issues with dropped calls.

The improvements on 4S are not enough for me to go upgrade.

I have a 3G. I got it in 09 when they dropped the price with the 3GS launch. I loved it right up until OS4 came out and turned it into a slow stuttering wreck. My contract is up and I've been waiting eagerly to see what the new phone might have. I'm pretty disappointed, but also desperately need a new phone and have all this Apple investment. So I suppose I'm getting one. The Droid phones for the same price with better specs all seem to be clunky and huge.

Would you have been disappointed if it was called the iPhone 5? There are some pretty significant updates with this new phone.

You can sell that old 3G on eBay for nearly the same price you can buy the new 4S for, it would be worth it. The iphone 4 is amazingly great! The 4S even better...... in the words of Nike.... "Just Do It".

I like the Android too but like you said (and I agree) it's too clunky and huge.... plus I already have an iPad Posted Image

  The old you're holding it wrong antenna-gate is old and no longer an issue (at least all but one). Sorry RPO but havent heard anyone in quite some time complain about it. Yes you can drop calls as I can confirm on a 3 GS, Palm Treo 650, 700 and 750, various HTC devices, Moto Q 9h, Samsung Blackjack, Blackjack II and a few others.

As to the 4S, as noted it does have a number of disappointments i.e. its not an iPhone 5, doesn't support LTE, STILL doesn't load and wash the dishes and a few others. Think the LTE is likely a battery performance issue - too keep the phone small and thin, your LTE use would be horrific at this time.

Big question is...buy/upgrade now or wait and see if the iPhone 5 appears and offers the big change and not a year plus out.

Dave has posted photos and video taken on his iPhone 4 and while it isn't as good as a DSLR or current HD camcorder, it is impressive and good enough for those times you dont have a the camera/camcorder with you.

I agree with Dave that it's time for your upgrade.

Curious - what do you want that the 4s doesn't have?
Even the 3G of the 3G/3GS/4/4s is constrained by the networks more than the phone.
Sure - it isn't perfect, but what is?

I will probably update my 3GS to a 4S. I don't want to wait another year for some yet undetermined potential differences that may matter to me. I like the improvements of the 4S.
