So sad... now we buy launches from the Russians for five or ten years or just give up entirely

Well, how much should someone pay for a used vehicle that comes with no warranty and is being decommissioned as it's decided we are past the serviceable, usable, life?

Let's put it in comparison to something more familiar, How much would pay for a used Pinto that would cost 100X the purchase price to operate, it ran on a fuel you couldn't just go buy at a gas station, and the brakes were beyond repair?

A pinto doesn't make a very good museum piece either, but a shuttle might.

Uhhh--no offense but you forgot one other comparison.

A pinto's fuel tank will explode upon small impact anywhere near the left panel of the vehicle.

A shuttle will explode it any little pieces of styrofoam fall off it or if any velcro is allowed to float around while the vehicle is in re-entry mode back into the earths orbit.

But hey--what's in the small details?

Not "any". Specific pieces in specific areas, just like the Pinto.

The shuttle already comes with fuel cell technology so I guess that makes it a hybrid.

Plus, I think it's not fair to compare it to a used car. It has bathroom and sleeping facilities after all and lots of cargo space. More like an RV or tour bus.

OK, how much would you pay for a used motorhome you couldn't...

... with no brakes?
I would rather be Backpacking

Gotta say, it would definitely make the world's most awesomest backyard play structure for the kids *ever*!

I'd probably have to take down a few sections of fence to get it back there though sad.gif

Yea ... but any respectable neighbor would gladly give you the right away for such an important project.

Does anyone know what the what the GVWR is? I could be interested, and I wonder if Aerojet is capable of handing any warranty problems at least they are close and will likely have a "Shuttle Service" to bring me home while it's in the shop.

but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

Length
Space Shuttle: 184 feet
Orbiter: 122 feet
Height
Orbiter on runway: 57 feet
Wingspan
78 feet
Liftoff Weight*
4.5 million pounds

You will probably need to reinforce the concrete in your back patio to handle the weight?

I couldn't get a service advisor at Aerojet to call me back.

Yeah but the payload is only about 25 tons. It does at least seat seven. You might be better off with one of those giant triple cab pickup things.

Aerojet only makes the little orbital maneuvering engines and some other small stuff... primary contractor is North American, I mean Rockwell, wait I mean Boeing, no I mean United Space Alliance, wait no it's changing again...

Brings up a point... would the boosters be included? What would it weigh without fuel?

Dunno if I'd want to buy a vehicle from a bankrupt company smile.gif

Maybe the people of Folsom can put some pennies together and purchase one and bring it to Folsom. Start a space museum and charge $20 a person to go in and see it.

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-
