Any options other than Homedepot and Lowe's that you can recommend?

If you are looking for high end, Waldo Bowers in Sacramento is good, but pricey, and they can be a bit quirky as it is a family owned business. They have some great installers though (as well as a few "regular" guys).  Make sure to ask for  Jerry to do the installation if you do go with them.

If you just want a mid grade or lower, there are plenty of options locally.  I would just make sure to get 8 lb pad (increases carpet life and just feels better...and don't let them gouge you for it either. It wholesales for less than 4.00 a yard)  Also, make sure all the "extras" are included. i.e. moving furniture, tearing out the old material, new metal transitions, stair labor etc.

Lowes and Home Depot (as well as many local shops pay their labor poorly, so don't expect an A+ installation. You will more likely receive a "good enough" installation.

Hope that helps!

Call Dave with Cameo Flooring in Orangevale. He's great. At least get an estimate.

Gold River Flooring was great for us this summer. Cheaper than we expected!

I like El Dorado Floor and Design behind Home Depot. Family owned.
