I know a lot of you don't read The Folsom Telegraph so this is just FYI if anyone is interested that lives in that area.  It sounds cool, but I'm not sure how much water this project is going to use even if they are planting drought-tolerant landscaping.

Notice of Completion and Availability of Draft Environmental Impact Report to: All interested parties.

A summary is it will be a two-story 116,363 sq. ft. building.  Outdoors will be leisure and lap pools, two water slides up to 19 feet in height, whirlpool, Poolside Bistro, 8 lighted tennis courts, child activity area.  The leisure and lap pool would be temperature controlled and closed Dec., Jan. and Feb.

Hours of operation would be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week indoors.

Outdoors hours would be lap swimming from dawn to dusk, family recreational 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Waterslides 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Child activity areas 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Tennis courts 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

There's more about site improvements like parking lot, lights, trash enclosure, etc.  Six acres of the 20.43 acres would remain in existing state.

If you have questions, they list the contact as Steve Banks, Senior Planner, 355-7385 or sbanks@folsom.ca.us.

On a separate note, Vista Del Lago High School passed its five-year review by the California Department of Toxic Substances.

Sorry.  It's in the title, but it is small print.  It's 110 Serpa Way.  That's Empire Ranch area, right?

I just looked at Google Maps.  Either the city posted the wrong address or Google Maps has a problem.  It looks like it's smack in the middle of two homes and there's no way there's 20 acres there.  I'm betting it's probably more towards the intersection of Iron Point & Serpa.

You are right, it looks like Iron Point and Serpa is the location.

Swimming pool water is mostly recycled, so it would likely use less water than an equivalent square footage of turf grass.  There would still be water lost due to splashing and evaporation.  Weird that they are closing the pools in the winter.  The Broadstone Racquet club pools are open year-round.  Except for landscaping, I'd bet that the most water used would be from the showers.

You are probably right.  I was thinking about splashing (waterslide) and evaporation (outdoor pool).   I also don't know how many times a center like that would need to drain and refill.  I think the aquatic center needs to do that once in a while, don't they?

I think they do it 1x a year, after the annual Doggie Splash.  You usually only need to drain to repair the paint or plaster (and I believe if the amount of dissolved salts is too high).  Otherwise, it is unnecessary if you maintain proper water chemistry and filter maintenance.

Ducky, I hope you don't mind that I edited the title. "Folsom Life Time Fitness Project" made me think it was a program aimed at getting the people of Folsom to commit to a lifetime of fitness.

Maybe it's just the way I think.

Anyway, it sounds like it might give the other gyms a run for their money.

With water slides, I imagine that they will get some of the CalFit and Broadstone members with kids to move.

I'll probably stick with CalFit. It's close enough to walk, and has the equipment I need. If I had little ones though...

I don't have a problem with the title change.  I just put it the way it was listed in the public notice.  The way it was worded I thought maybe it was going to be a public facility at first.

I suspect that would be on the Costco/Green Acres side.

Sounds good for families. I hope they decrease the speed on Iron Point in that area, otherwise it could be quite dangerous. People love to haul down that hill.

Does Folsom really need ANOTHER fitness club/swimming pool?

I posted a topic about this about a month ago when I noticed it on the Folsom city website new business section... I thought it looked like a cool place. I contacted the business because I hadn't heard/seen anything, and they said there is no plan for a Folsom location. They're currently building a Roseville location- and it won't be open until next year. Interested to see how it all works out.

I'm sorry.  I missed that post.  If I had seen it I would have just added to that.  They've spent about $170,000 on the EIR study so I think they are serious about this site.

Newday, thanks for the link.

No worries! I am definitely interested to see a timeline, since the Roseville one is definitely underway with construction and the opening date is so far out. It looks like a great family place online, and the location is super close to our house.
