Of the nominated films, I've only seen Whiplash, which I absolutely loved, and was happy to see JK Simmons win for his role in that movie.

I'm planning on eventually seeing the others.

I liked several of the musical performances, including Lady Gaga, Tim McGraw and John Legend.

What did you think?

Overall, it was one of the most boring Oscars I've ever seen. NPH did an awful job. We taped the show and zipped past a lot of it. Some of the musical performances were good, and we haven't seen most of the movies, so we had no ponies in the races. But the show itself was not entertaining.

Other than the opening number NPH was a bore- almost childlike in his failed attempt at humour at times.

I had not watched the Oscars in years but was bored myself so turned them on.  I thought they used to show more about the movies and people nominated-clips and such.

Also thought the memorial was a bore as well as it was presented _ no disrespect to those it was about_ ... It was much better when I last saw it...

The common theme of my response and the show - a bit of a bore... (says one that has only had a TV for 2 months after a 20 year hiatus)

and to add to that, I fell asleep before the end...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Let's see, the gay host had to resort to coming on stage in his underwear, an actress that has millions in her bank account was pushing for women and wage equality, and John Legend stood up in defense of prisoners. Yep, typical Hollywood dribble.

Oh and the Sean Penn remark at the end of the show was classic, way to go out on a high note!

I thought they SUCKED overall.

Enlighten us?

He made what some believe was an insensitive remark about the Mexican director of "Birdman" although the two are friends and have worked together in the past.

Penn said, "Who gave this son of a (censored) his green card?"

The backlash is understandable.

Although Penn is supposedly a friend of the director, as more than one person pointed out, no one asked about the 'green cards' of the British nominees, and there were several.

Then again, we don't have a national debate over British immigrants, either.

Perhaps that joke should have been made in private, or not at all.

Yes, that sounds to me like a private joke that was inadvisedly made in public. It wouldn't surprise me that the two of them have joked good-naturedly before about the topic-- kind of like when my daughter's friends deemed her an "honorary Asian" for studying hard. Funny among good friends... but could seem tone-deaf to outsiders.

Pretty boring.  I liked the Red Carpet pre-show better than the actual show (but then, I watch the Oscars mainly for the fashion show and entertainment, since I don't frequent the movies that often).  I thought Lady Gaga nailed it; Tim McGraw and John Legend were mediocre and NPH stunk (I guess the underwear appearance was meant to appease his husband, because he sure looked pretty ridiculous to me.)

JLo looked like an R-rated Cinderella.  Reese Witherspoon's dress was fantastic, but she should have done something with her hair to complete the look.  Julianne Moore dressed appropriately for the occasion and, although I have not seen her movie, "Still Alice" (I think it was), she looked nice delivering her acceptance speech.  I plan on tuning in to "Fashion Police" tonight on E! to see what the "fashionistas" have to say.  I loved it when Joan Rivers was on there giving her not-so-subtle critiques!  Anyway, just my two cents.

Not a Lady Gaga fan normally but I thought her Sound of Music cover was amazing. That girl has a real voice behind that meat dress!

Wondering if anyone else saw Boyhood and was as impressed and amazed as I was? I love unique movies and this one truly fit that bill!

Lady Gaga has a phenomenal voice. Have you heard her paired with Tony Bennett? Awesome.

Haven't seen Boyhood yet, but it's on the list.......

The whole Underwear Scene with NPH was a parody of a scene from Birdman.  I won't give any more details to prevent spoilers.

I saw Boyhood too and enjoyed it, but it was pretty lengthy, and glad I saw it on DVD instead of the theater for that reason :)  I really related to the photography themes in the movie, and how it related to the overall theme, but I will again shut up so I don't spoil it.

Nope. Not in the least bit interested.  Although I did here Lady Gaga sing the tribute on the radio and was pretty impressed.

If you weren't such a homophobe you would have known that the underwear stunt was taken from a scene in the movie Birdman, you know - the move that one best picture of the year. You should know since you watched the show to the very end with that hypocrite libtard Sean Penn.
