SO, SO  SAD AND TRAGIC...

Two killed in White Rock Road crash: ‘An innocent person lost her life’

White Rock Road is closed for in indefinite amount of time Monday following a head-on collision that killed two people, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash involving three vehicles occurred about 8:20 a.m. Monday on White Rock Road near Prairie City Road south of Highway 50.

Officer Tommy Riggin, California Highway Patrol spokesman, said a vehicle driven by a 41-year-old El Dorado Hills man was traveling westbound on eastbound White Rock Road at a high rate of speed. Just west of Prairie City Road, it collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman.

An eastbound vehicle behind the woman drove into the collision and that vehicle spun out of control. Riggin said the wrong-way driver and the 21-year-old woman were killed. Their names have not been released pending notification of family.

The third driver suffered minor to moderate injuries, Riggin said. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

CHP Lt. Brandon Straw said that dispatchers were told by witnesses that the vehicle driven by the El Dorado Hills man was traveling at 80 to 100 mph. A minute later a report was received of the collision.

It is unclear so far why the motorist was driving so recklessly on a road with blind curves.

“We will have to do interviews with people who were close to him, friends and family,” said Straw. “We will want to see what his mind-set was. Driving on the wrong side of the road at the speeds he was going was a tragedy waiting to happen. And it did happen. An innocent person lost her life this morning.”

The California Highway Patrol urges motorists to use other routes around the rural location.

It is now open, but it is surely a shame that some ashat driver driving 80-100 MPH on the wrong side of the road caused this...  Sorry for the innocents loss...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

The driver was 41-year-old Christopher Haynes of El Dorado Hills.

I am awaiting word on why he was driving that way. Most likely drugs or alcohol?

He was driving a Toyota. Wasn't it Toyota that had the *stuck accelerator* problems?

A stuck accelerator might explain the speed, but it would not explain the wrong side of the road.  If the accelerator is stuck, it's not like he was forced to drive on the wrong side of the road.  He could steer it off the road--most of that area is wide open land right now because no one has developed it (yet).

Such a tragedy...praying for the families in their time of loss.

Even with a stuck accelerator, you can take it out of gear, downshift and/or apply the brakes.

People are crazy.

if he was suicidal, why couldn't he just drive into a concrete wall or something.  no need to kill/hurt someone else.

This was as bunk as the people who claim their Tesla's are accelerating into walls or parked cars.

The article still doesn't support that a stuck accelerator would cause him to drive on the wrong side of the road.  Likewise, if it was stuck, why didn't he call 911 (like the driver in the article did)?  Why didn't he downshift?  Drive off the road so he didn't hit anyone?

Sunny, nomad seemed to suggest that the whole *stuck accelerator* thing was bunk and BS and a myth. I was simply reminding him/her that it wasn't. I am making no other assertions. I rely on facts, and that article I posted is pretty powerful, IMO, even though I'm no fan of ABC News.

Except for the fact that there are alternative facts these days. Or other sides to the story if you wish. For every article you pull bashing Toyota in this scandal I can find one for the opposite case that talks about FBI money grab, etc etc. There is no root cause unless you accept that Toyota paying the Tax, I mean, penalty, is one then you can keep believing that.

The young woman killed in the accident was Song Zhu, a young woman from Shenyang, China, living in Elk Grove.  She was probably on her way to work.  Her poor family to lose a bright young daughter so far away.  And how tragic for her to lose her whole future mindlessly.
