Actually Vin, public schools were given their impetus by Horace Mann (among others). He was a member of the Whig party. The Whigs formed to oppose Andrew Jackson and the Democrats...
As for labor. People will work as much as they need to. IT IS THEIR CHOICE. According to recent data,
" A 2014 national Gallup poll put the average number at 47 hours per week, or 9.4 hours per day, with many saying they work 50 hours per week.
In demanding, competitive industries like tech and finance, professionals work in excess of 60 hours a week as a rule, and are available constantly by smartphone. A recent Bloomberg Businessweek story highlighted American factories where employees work upwards of 12 hours a day, six or seven days a week."
As for women's suffrage, 50 years before the 19th Amendment, a REPUBLICAN governor (Wyoming) vetoed an attempt to get rid of Wyoming's new law that allowed women to vote. In 1878 a CA REPUBLICAN introduced the 19th AMendment. It was defeated by a DEMOCRAT Congress. It was reintroduced every year. In the early 1900's many states were starting to give women the right to vote. In 1918 (Democrat) WIlson lost popular favor because of the war which caused a Republican landslide in Congress. The Dems blocked the 19th by 2 votes (Wilson was anti 19th as well until he flipped). Finally, the 19th Amendment was passed by Congress...DESPITE the democrats opposition.
Ninety-one percent of Republicans voted for women compared to only 59 percent of Democrats.
On June 4, 1919, it passed the Senate 56-25. Eighty-two percent of Republicans voted in favor of the amendment while 41 percent of Democrats continued their War on Women
Of the 36 states to ratify the 19th Amendment, 26 were Republican states.
If you think the Dems have rewritten history on women's rights, you should see what they did with black rights...
Time to put down the progressive kool-aid and crack a history book....
