I get Vienna Beef dogs and italian beef shipped directly from Vienna Beef (www.viennabeef.com). Malnati's makes it easy as they offer a ton of different things. Their pizza is sooo good. But there are other pizza places from which you can order. Aurelio's Pizza delivers, www.aureliospizza.com. Gino's East (dirty place tho.) and Giordano's both deliver as well. Luckily, I get back to Chicago a few times a year and gorge on pizza when I'm there so I don't have it shipped. It's so expensive.

Gino's East used to be one of my favorite places for deep dish. I haven't been there in forever; it wasn't dirty back when.....

Of course, Chicago makes better pizza than Sacramento. I'd hope so. I just think Zelda's is a good substitute, and would hardly give it the crappy rating that booboo did. I like the deep dish because it is more tomatoey (is that a word?), where the stuffed is cheesy. I do, however, LOVE the spinach and mushroom at CF! Now I'm hungry!!!
Speaking of pizza - have you ever tried Zachary's in Berkeley? I've only had it once, and I remember it being delicious!
I'm from the Bay Area and must admit when I lived down there Zachary's was the shiz zown. Spinach salad and the stuffed pizza were great, the "regular" pizza sucked. Cash only also sucked. Years later, I move to Folsom go to Chicago Fire and I have a new #1. The spinich salad and stuffed pizza are the bomb and that cookie/ice cream/whipped cream dessert blows BJ's pizzookie crap away. Just for kicks, I've gone back to Zachary's a couple of times and although its great pizza I prefer Chicago Fire. Also, I've had Giordano's and while I thought it was good, I thought the abundance of cheese over-powered the rest of the pizza. Chicago Fire tastes more balanced, if that makes sense.
Chicagoeans, what do you think about All Star Cafe? Wish we had one of those in Nor Cal!

Oh, yeah, CF's cookie dessert RAWKS!!!!
All this talk made us hit CF tonight. The kids polished off the thin crust cheese, and my husband and I have leftovers from our stuffed. Yeah! Lunch tomorrow.

I am not a huge pizza fan, as it is generally made up of things that are not healthy (refined carbs, saturated fat, cholesterol, etc.), but I am weak, so will gorge on the stuff every now and then.
Chicago Fire is my favorite. Not too much cheese.
Classico is pretty good, too.
Has anyone tried Amici's in the Bay Area?
There used to be one across the street from me. Thin crust, kinda burnt on the bottom. I have a friend in Maui who visits once or twice a year. She always hits up Amici's when she gets here.
I haven't tried Zelda's but was told the crust is similar to Uno's in SF and Chicago, that kind of biscuity, flaky stuff.
My mom is the only person I know who hated Italy. She said, "Everything is old, the streets are made of stones, we had to walk everywhere, it was full of tourists (including her), and I couldn't find authentic pizza anywhere!" I had to break the news that what she had in Italy WAS the authentic stuff. What did she expect, ham and pineapple?
When my daughters were small, I used to buy them sauce, cheese, dough and pepperoni, and let them make the messiest and tastiest pizzas I've ever had. I miss those days.

The crust you get at Uno's chains is not what it's like in Chicago. It's not biscuity, greasy or anything. If you go to the original Uno's in Chicago, it's different than what you get at Uno's elsewhere, btw.
Do not, I repeat, do not let Uno's be what you think Chicago pizza is like. It's nothing like the real thing.

I ate at either Uno or Due in Chicago. Don't remember which. Had clam and garlic pizza. A couple of hours later, I was at at this big dance place, Baja Beach Club, when it hit me in a nasty way. I am sure that's not the typical experience, but it was pretty bad.

It's not purely about taste for me, it's what you are used to. I had no interest in Mexican food when I moved here in 1983, but now I love it, and for California natives it's a must have. Zelda's tastes like what I remember of Chi-town pizza.
When I was in Zelda's last month a family of 4 were eating next to us. The kids were very young and soon after the food was brought to them, one of the kids (baby) barfed. Mom, a bit too young for pizza, don't you think?? Anyway, the parents were grossed out and simply left in a rush without paying! Pretty rude IMHO. Waitresses were pretty shocked but went on with serving customers. Moral of the story is that customers can be idiots too.
