In general, we aren't very good stewards of our land. Personal freedom vs sustainability and respect for the natural land often at at odds.
While somewhat true that there can be conflicts, I am living proof that all those priorities can coexist. I have an intense desire for personal freedom, and sustainability. I also have a deep respect for nature. Why? Because I (like many) not only believe in personal freedom, but also believe in personal RESPONSIBILITY.
I believe in using our resources, but doing so responsibly. Simple.
I like how you said you are a true conservative. My father, big Republican, was too and always reminded me what the conversation movement was all about and that it was originally the Republican's domain. We grew up recycling cans, turning off lights, turning down the heat, usual a/c sparingly, conserving water and any other resource (money, too) because my parents believed waste was inherently wrong. They taught me to believe we have a responsibility to avoid waste and that our actions affect others, that our personal wants did not trump the big picture. I try my best!
