[Suburban Pool Service]

The thread about the building/ construction across from Scott's had me thinking about a Folsom/ favorite of yore. I’m sure Scotts food and environment is 100x’s nicer, but having grown up in Folsom as a kid, I miss going to Woody’s where Scotts seafood is today. I recall it far more family like IMO than per se Red Robin, while the views and the hip crew seemed to make an otherwise family style restaurant exclusive.

I also miss “Thrifty”was where 24hr Fitness is or next door do that if I recall. Used to go there for cheap, but good ice cream. You couldn’t beat it.

Chevy’s on the river too? I know the food was so so er, but I recall good times.

Just wondered what some of you miss in Folsom?

Besides Woody's, some other "diners": Denny's (now Streets of London), Chubby's (at the Big 5 strip mall), Dairy Queen, Arby's, the Chinese buffet that occupied the same space later....

I haven't really been here long enough to miss anything (3 years). But I miss that great vietnemese restaurant that was next to Big 5. The new one's ok but I liked the prior one better.

and like Chad, I too was bummed that Lockdown's not going to be in old town - that would have been the most ideal location for that place.

I miss being able going across town and over Rainbow Bridge in less than 15 minutes. But the updside is that with all the stores open here, there's less of a reason for me to go over the river.

I also miss Thrify's 35 cent cones. I also miss getting a 'mug and a cone' at A&W (now Sol Azteca).

I miss being ignorant about the scare of naturally occuring asbestos will do to El Dorado Hills and Folsom home markets......Check out SacBee under asbestos in search item...Proof that it will affect children who are raised here and increase their exposure to this deadly element....

I miss being able to drive across Dam Road, stopping at the parking lot to admire the view.

I miss Folsom High football games at their old location (what is now Sutter Middle School).

I miss seeing the horses roaming on that land on East Bidwell, just past Blue Ravine.

I miss my youngest daughter, at 7 years old, spending the summer in a bikini and roller blades, pads and helmet, or exploring the empty lot across the street (gone now), picking wildflowers for mom, finding a petrified rat carcass and thinking it was a dinosaur, then dividing the tail in half and giving one half to our neighbor's kid. Those were great days.

Now, you can't drive across the dam, the football games our at the edge of town and not visible from the street, the horse property is covered with new homes, my daughter is almost 14, and not interested in any of those kid things anymore. :-(

I also miss calling "Folsom Point" Dyke eight for some reason. 4wheelin out to the old Russell Ranch before Empire Ranch developed on this land. I miss driving by the that house/ ranch that used to be on the property located on bidwell just past Mercy Hospital and before you come up on the Fitness center. I think it was vacant as long as I've been here, since 1989 but it eventually burned down or something of that unfortunate sort.

Wow, someone else in Northern California who knows what a Tommyburger is (or was). Tommy's, (the original on Rampart ) had the best chilicheesebugers you can imagine, particularly if you were drunk or stoned (not that I ever was)

I miss John & Dian Cedar...they moved to Minnesota. John was the "unofficial" community pastor and the most decent honorable man I ever met!

I miss having all the "Community activists" (left, right & middle of the roaders) banding together to do what was best for the community. When the city traded the park land in Lexington hills for wetlands and couldn't build any parks...the community rallied around doing what was right and IMHO became a better City because of their efforts! Nowadays...it seems there are more trying to keep things quiet maybe to protect their place on the totem pole than there are trying to do things right.

I miss having coffee with Jack Kipp...I realize now somebody should have taped those meetings and written a book. Those of you who never got the opportunity to listen to him tell stories off the record...really missed out!

I miss having Hal Barker as Chief of Police, Terry Solgas as a police officer and Bill Murdoch in the Fire department. They were people who knew everybody and treated people with respect. They were hands on people who left their egos at home each day!

I miss Doug Udell.....I wasn't his biggest fan when he was the ACM, but after he was fired/resigned, I got the opportunity to get to know him better and my opinion of him changed.

I too miss driving across the Dam road...wondering if the fish were biting.

I miss the earlier Rodeo Kick off Bar-be-ques....times do indeed change!

I do enjoy all the new people who I have had the opportunity to meet and look forward to meeting more.

Tio Pepe's (where KFC is on East Bidwell and Glenn Drive)

Going to Mass at the historic St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Going to 5%. (if you have to ask.......)

Oh, so many memories........
