I just stumbled across an article in an East Bay newspaper from October which said that a Malabar American Cooking Restaurant is going to be opening in Folsom. Sounds like like may be somewhere by Safeway, maybe in the new shopping center adjacent to it.

Does anyone know anything about this? Apparently there is one in Natomas and it's owned by some of the same guys who own Mandango's.

Grilled shark: John Cook, co-owner of Scott's Seafood, is a very busy guy.

He's working with partner Alan Irvine on a third Scott's that's part of a boutique hotel and marina project to be built in the Little Pocket area.

He's also working with Scott Ashley to open at least two more Mandango's sports bars. One is set for Elk Grove, another most likely in Natomas.

Then he's going solo with a new restaurant, called Malabar. The concept is American cooking - rotisserie chicken, stir fry, ribs, pasta and the like - with a full bar.

Groundbreaking is set for April for the first one, near Arco Arena at Del Paso Road and I-5. A second, in Folsom, is under consideration. With all the activity, something had to give.

The second article is similar to the one I saw, only it was from this past October.

By the say, I'm not referring to Malabar Indian Store. This resturant is *not* an Indian resturant. Here's the link to the website for their Natomas restaurant: http://www.malabaramericancooking.com/.

Hmm, american food. The menu looks like a more upscale Lyons.

Yes they are going in the shopping center adjacent to Safeways, and they are owned by people who are affiliated with Scott's.

They recently got ripped in the Sunday Ticket, although I don't think the review was very fair, as most of the first half of the article was a rant on the decor. I have eaten there, and it wasn't spectacular, but it was pretty good.

I just got a reply back from them that they are shooting for a may 2007 opening at the location you mentioned.
