Construction of Parking Structure Begins in Historic District

On Tuesday, January 16, 2007 construction begins on the Historic District Parking Structure. Once completed, the structure will provide over 300 new parking spaces for Historic District visitors and light rail patrons.

Timed parking applies, in order to protect businesses and residents during construction.

If I read my news correctly, this is estimated to be complete by May-2008

Bummer it takes so long, but it's moving! smile.gif

How on earth can a two story, 300 space parking structure take a year and half to build? Skyscrapers are built in less time

So judging by the map... where are light rail riders supposed to park in the meantime?

In the light rail lots, or at Iron Point.

Yes. This is a public project, so I believe we have government efficiency at work. I believe the other 3 residential/office buildings are going to sprout up instantly, comparatively, upon the eventual completion of the parking structure.

Nope, the RT lots have no restrictions on them. But space is limited, so act now! Or go to Iron Point.

The light rail lot is where the garage is going to be... good thing I don't commute downtown via light rail!

Per the flier, the Light Rail lots are still "Untimed Parking"

The construction zone is the empty railroad block, where people have historically parked to catch light rail. Not the official light rail lots, which fill up quickly, on the other side (top side of the pdf below)

They seem to be making good progress on the parking structure. Remember that this whole area is undermined by tunnels and caves, so unless you want to park in there and have it come crashing down, they'd better build a solid foundation.

The Mystery of the Mound of Dirt
See Story
Over the past few months, the massive mound of dirt, topped with plastic prompted more than a few people to ask questions.

"We talked about the Parking Structure Project. The scheduled completion date is January 2007 and according to Dave, the project is running on schedule."
