Let us all take a moment and honor a true hero and pray for the family that is left behind.

That is so sad. I saw the headline on the News page of myfolsom, but I didn't start a topic about it because I couldn't think of anything to say except how sad it is.

I hope that there is some purpose to his death. Maybe he saved the lives of some innocent Iraqis by helping create a zone of security and safety in that troubled country.

Now that I'm old (40), I just can't believe how young the soldiers are that we put in harm's way. Just kids, with their whole lives in front of them. I can scarcely even remember being 23. There is something grotesque and sickening about countries sending their children to die to settle conflicts.

I sometimes dream about a day when countries will settle disputes in a peaceful way. I tell my girls that that day will be within the grasp of their generation. I don't know if I believe it, though.

It should go without saying that my heart and prayers go out to Sgt. Thrasher's family... a terrible loss for the city of Folsom.

Most of the public and nearly all of the House and Senate were in favor of this war. The "war" isn't the problem, it's how it's been run that's the problem. Point being, I guess, that personal politics has absolutely NOTHING to do with what heros this and other soldiers are. I thought that needed to be said. These guys, and this soldier no doubt, are unbelievable to me. It's one thing to join the millitary. It's another thing all together to join in a time of war. I cannot even imagine the kind of courage and patriotism that requires. There is something very, very good in the hearts of Americans to puruse this conflict, to allow it to go on (debates of faulty intellegence aside) but there is something totally extraordinary about Sgt. Thrasher and his kind. I am dumbfounded and in awe of him, as I am of my nephew who will likely ship out before the year is over. Their willingness alone gives me faith in an America that the news will have you believe is fading.

It should never be said that these soldiers sacrificed in vain (not that anyone here said that.) That couldn't be farther from the truth. It's not enough to say we support our troups. We need to make THEM, and not our actors and rock stars, our heros. I'm sure we can all agree on that, I just hope we can make it a reality. Maybe threads like this will help.

A truly great, phenomenal American from Folsom, Sgt. Robert Trasher, was killed in the line of duty. That is a BIG deal. A very, very BIG deal.

His wife actually enlisted so she could be with him in Iraq. Hopefully this will make her exempt from deployment. Unbelievably sad.

Anytime someone dies, it's sad. I find it especially sad when one dies from fighting.

Oh this is so sad. I wish there was something I could do to help . I pray their family gets the support they need. Now my friend lost a husband, another friend lost an uncle. Now I lost a fellow Folsomer. So sad. sad.gif We need to end this senseless war.
