ACCLAIMED SAN FRANCISCO SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITARIST
JEFFREY HALFORD
*Performing Locally: POWERHOUSE PUB in Folsom – Thurs., April 26*
(FOLSOM, CA) – Acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jeffrey Halford, returns to one of his favorite haunts, The Powerhouse Pub, 614 Suter St., Folsom, Thursday, April 26. Showtime 9 p.m. Tickets $5.00. Info: (916) 355-8586.
Halford recently performed at the 2007 South By Southwest Conference in Austin and is set to release his new CD, WAMPUM, in June on Shoeless Records. The Bay Area troubadour recently recorded “Louisiana Man,” about the plight of the displaced people in New Orleans, post-Hurricane Katrina. The San Francisco-based, eclectic singer-songwriter has also been in-studio laying down tracks for his soon-to-be-released CD, “WAMPUM,” accompanied by famed pianist/accordionist, Augie Meyers (of Texas Tornadoes renown). Meyers, along with noted Nashville harpist “Jelly Roll” Johnson, also played on “Louisiana Man,” being considered for Spike Lee’s upcoming film about the Katrina disaster.
Halford’s most recent CD, RAILBIRDS (Shoeless Records), was released to much critical acclaim: “Music is a great healer. And you’ll find great music on the (My Space) page of San Francisco’s Jeffrey Halford and the Healers,” writes Paul Freeman in the PALO ALTO DAILY NEWS. “ You’ll be treated to four savory selections from his terrific current CD, RAILBIRDS…(Halford’s) blues-rock is striking in its honesty and power.” “Less conforming than Springsteen, and often quite comparable to Elliot Murphy, Jeffrey Halford continues the great tradition of the blue collar, American folk-rock singer/songwriter/axe slinger…(on RAILBIRDS) Halford and band blow the roof off with the rollicking “Rent To Own” and approach genius with the touching, sweet title track…Halford’s crisp, clear vocals and straight delivery compliment the outstanding musicianship...” (CONTACTMUSIC.COM). “San Francisco-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Jeffrey Halford delivers his literate and compelling stories in an empathetic tenor that can range from fiery to tender, and he drives the point home with distinctive guitar work, most notably on National Resophonic slide,” writes the SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL. “Halford’s latest batch of songs has drawn comparisons to Kris Kristofferson, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson and others. It’s his subtle musical uniqueness and Beat-like lyrics that set him apart from the rest.” METRO SANTA CRUZ wrote, “Halford is a staple of the Bay Area blues and rock scene…his collaborations and concerts over the years serve as a reminder that, though the dotcoms came and went, the spirit of San Francisco will never be the same.” The late Buddy Siegal of the SAN DIEGO TRIBUNE wrote, “I am here to place Jeffrey Halford up on the pedestal with such figures as John Fogerty, Randy Newman, Alejandro Escovedo, and John Prine – and Bob Dylan – in the pantheon of great American singer-songwriters.” VINTAGE GUITAR says, “Jeffrey Halford has stepped up to become a major songwriter in the roots rock field…carrying on a tradition of rock and roll that is long and literate and, in the words of John Mellencamp, ‘stimulates your brains and your hips.’” Wrote John N. Lomax (HOUSTON PRESS): “Good Americana should sound the way a well-tended collection of American stamps looks…songs should be as enduring and iconic as an old one-cent bust of Ben Franklin affixed to a corner of a yellowing letter from bygone times. It should commemorate the places, people, and things that make this country great, and excoriate those that don’t…San Francisco-based guitarist/songwriter Jeffrey Halford follows this approach in his bluesy folk-tinged rock…Halford’s ‘story songs’ can serve as a sort of audible stamp collection, sagas of America that can stand for all time.”
