Bought a house about 6 months ago, was dilly-dallying about gettin an alarm, you know it's folsom, I could leave the door open and go to work and it'd be fine...this is what I used to say. Anyways on this particular day one week ago, I did not leave any doors open. When my soon to be a mom wife comes home at about 2:30 (am so glad she didn't walk-in on them, she could have come home early that day) she doesn't find any of our multiple computers, her closet is all messed up.

They came in thru the side garage door (no dead bolt, only one of those latch type locks) and usually I do but that day I had not locked the deadbolt between the garage and the house ( I am guessing unless they some how figured a way to open the deadbolt).

So just a heads up to everyone LET'S KEEP AN EYE OUT for any suspicious people especially around the 10- 11am..seems like that's when they are scoping the neighbourhoods. I am very pissed that someone could do that to my home...come-in and violate it like that. LET's GET EM GUYS!

That is a terrible feeling being burglarized. Glad your wife didn't show up at the wrong time. It can happen anywhere but there's still much less of it here than, say Elk Grove. An alarm does give some peace of mind.

I've resisted getting an alarm myself because we have nothing valuable lmaosmiley.gif
Crooks would be so disappointed in our place, but I would hate to have our safe feeling shaken by some idiot thief. Good reminder to keep our eyes open for burglars during the daytime.

Hey Dr. P - what's your nearest cross street on Walden?

I used to live in the area. The The closest major cross street is Broadstone Parkway.

There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood. Be diligent of strangers and know your neighbors. Despite this happening to you and your family, Folsom is still a better neighborhood when compared to other parts of town. I'm happy to hear that neither you nor your wife were hurt! It could have been worst

Clarksville is a little bit closer too.

defintely a great neighbourhood; Me & my family love coming back to Folsom when we visit our friends in the surrounding cities. I have to say though the cameras are a great psycological aid!

What cameras? Do you have cameras in your house?

Hubby and I have spoken about getting some cameras to run when we are gone....can you tell me where you got yours and how much they cost?

You could get some fake cameras, if the real ones are too expensive. http://www.fakecameras.com/

I'm sorry to hear of your mishap and all this nonsense in, what I consider, the best city in Sac Co. It is fortunate they came home when they did though.

I better get busy and put that dead-bolt in on the side garage door I've been meaning to for 5 years now... lmaosmiley.gif

What about those security cameras, which fake one is truly convincing enough to discourage the average intruder? What about the real ones, how much does it costs for a minimum low-end one for a single story, 2-car gar, 4 bdrm Chelsea home and whom did you go with? Although curbed, it would have easier to do so with a real one for the kid who kept messing with my front yard ornaments some time ago.

I used to work for 911 and can tell you that most of the security systems (ADT, Brinks) that will call the police for you if they get a break-in alarm just aren't worth it. Sometimes an hour or more would pass before they would get around to calling the police. What is much more effective are the old school siren alarms. Much more likely to scare off an intruder and a neighbor or passer-by is more likely to take notice. You can buy them at Lowe's or Home depot pretty inexpensively. The louder the better. They even come with remote controls and panic buttons.
Most of these crimes are opportunistic, so simple things like deadbolts, sticks in sliding glass doors, and keeping windows locked are always practical. If you're going to be out of town for awhile there is a free program at the Folsom Police Department that you can sign up for where CAP volunteers will check on your home daily.
Ultimately, if someone really wants to get in your home, they will. The pro's can by-pass just about any alarm system out these days and will have the tools to get through any lock or window. Insurance, safety deposit boxes, and common sense are your best weapons against these thieves.

As always, your best bet is a barking dog. Perchance one loud enough to alert neighbors!
