EVERYONE:

I tried one of the Best of Folsom, 2003, restaurants last night and it was awful. I like food and I have been to many good restaurants in the Sacramento area, but if this is the best you got, maybe I should drive downtown more often.

I know a new Best of Folsom list is coming out soon, but I have got to find some place to take my wife and friends, visiting from out of town.

Please tell me what your favorite restaurants ARE in Folsom because I have lost trust in the Best of Folsom, 2003, food department????

I like Chinese, Mexican, Italian and good old American food.

Thanks in advance of your reply!

Sincerely,

JF thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

'Hard to please everyone', 'no accounting for taste', 'one man's pleasure is another's poison', 'those people don't know what they're talking about', 'If this is your best....' those are some of the typical and expected responses one hears whenever there's a 'Best of' list.

You didn't name the place. I can tell you that I've not been impressed with any of the Chinese, Italian or Mexican restaurants in town.

I think the Best Restaurants in town, without question are: Bailie's, Scott's, Gigi's, and the Bidwell Street Bistro (had their Portuguese seafood stew for lunch today!).

Bailies and Bidwell Street Bistro are unquestionably the best restaraunts in town, IMO. I went to Bailie's for the first time last week and intend to go back as frequently as I can. I had the hand cut pasta, which was very good. My wife had their Asian skirt steak, which was likewise delicious.

That said, there are many more good restaurants in downtown Sacramento than there are here. Moxy (I think that's what it's called), in midtown Sac is one of my all time favorite restaurants, for instance.

None of the regular "sit down/get served" mexican restaurants are very good...we find the best, freshest mexican in Dos Coyotes, though it's not a place to make an evening out.

Bailies is the best food we've had (and fun ambience, quite a shocking counterpoint to the strip-mall setting). Definitely a place to take visitors, just have them close their eyes til you get in the door.

We also like Tahoe Joes for it's consistancy and the nice "lodge" feeling inside. A nice place to take visitors and you won't be disappointed.

Jennies is the only decent Chinese place we've found, and I think we've hit them all at this point. The sauces taste like they were made from scratch, not just some goo from a can.

My Brother Vinny's is good casual Italian fare though some dishes are better than others...it's fun to sit upstairs, overlooking Old Town. We could use more Italian places for sure (maybe convert some of the overly abundant pizza restaurants?)

The Japanese place down on Gold River is good, though I forget the name. Hope that helps!

I agree with Bailie's, Scott's and Gigi's

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-
