I saw a list on the KCRA website of alchoholic drinks men should never order:

1. Anything blended (unless on a beach)
2. Jello shots
3. Cosmopolitans
4. Anything that uses whipped cream
5. Anything that requires a straw.
6. Any "tini" other than a real martini made with either gin or vodka with vermouth.
7. Fruity malt beverages
8. White Zinfandel

I'd add these:
No wine coolers or wine spritzers
Anything with an umbrella (even on a beach)
No Tequila Sunrises or Harvey Wallbangers
No drinks with sexual names (Sex on the beach, Screaming Orgasm etc.)

What's wrong with Jello shots? I may not order them normally, but if Hacienda is walking around with $1 Jello shots, I won't say no.

I'd also like to amend the "anything blended" - margaritas are pretty fair game. Strawberry margaritas are a no-no, but regular margaritas are OK. I've had pineapple margaritas, they are pretty good.

If I'm sitting on a nice beach, the last thing I care about is whether a) my drink is blended or not, b) it came with an umbrella, and c) the goober next to me sipping on a Coors Light thinks less of me because of a and b.

Lighten up. It makes life more enjoyable.

(BTW, it's hard to beat the perfect Lava Flow while sitting on a beach in Maui... umbrella and wedge of pineapple included.)

Appletini please. Easy on the tini!
It's Saturday night. I have no date, a 2 liter bottle of Shasta, and my all Rush mix tape. Let's rock.

I believe the thinking was that jello shots are basically drinks used to get females drunk and into uncompromising situations. Men would therefore reject them to allow as much female consumption as possible. Or the explanation Chris V gave probably applies.

I think it's pretty safe to say that if you have to mix it with something to take away the flavor of the alcohol then it is a chick drink.

Wow, is that list heterosexist or what? What if that "man's man" doesn't like beer?

You lost me. Perhaps you could rephrase the question.

Please note that this list addresses ORDERED drinks in a public place. Blended drinks and flavored martinis, including Cosmopolitans, are acceptable at home, private parties, or at events where they are the featured drink.

Also, if one is in a martini bar, it is okay to try different flavored ones, except of course, for chocolate. Chocolatinis are never to be ordered by a man, except on behalf of a woman. Even then, he should have her say it.
