Sorry, I don't know of any cooking classes. Do you cook? If so, do you involve your child? My children have literally been helping me cook in my kitchen since they were toddlers -- tearing lettuce to "make salad." They are now 18 and almost 21 and are very comfortable in the kitchen.

Very much so always include him. He wants to veture out and check out cooking with "professionals". I thought it would be a great idea.

Good for him! How cool. I sense a chef in the making.

We celebrated our son's 18th birthday at The Kitchen Restaurant -- very expensive gourmet event of a meal. They had a few young people helping in the kitchen that night as part of some program, but my brain cells are not recalling what that program/school was. It may be worth your while to call them with your inquiry.

Thank you so much. I have heard of the place but never been. I want to make sure I help him in any way so he can progress with what he enjoys. Never know, maybe we will see him on a Kids "HELLS Kitchen" version. He loves that show.

Thanks again.

Just to clarify. It isn't The Kitchen itself that offers the cooking course, but The Kitchen opened its doors to some of those students to try out their skills. Anyway, they should be able to put you in touch with the program. And if you ever have a very special event to celebrate, The Kitchen is awesome; outrageously expensive, but when you consider you are there 4 - 5 hours and eating the best of the best food... well, it's worth it.....once in a while. smile.gif

Why don't you go to ARC and take a culinary arts class. Then, come home and teach him what you learn and cook the many recipes they provide. It might be fun for both of you.

If that is not an option, go buy a children's cookbook and the two of you can learn together. Let him take the lead.... It's really quite easy to cook once you know the basics.

far as the Kitchen is concerned, WOW! It is an awesome experience and wonderful food but I don't think it is worth the money for a 11 year old! I love it and plan to go back with a big group. If you plan to go, expect to pay $200 per person!

The bottom line is get him involved and let him pick the recipes. Experiment and enjoy. Cooking is fun and can bring a family together.

Please re-read my posts: I didn't recommend that she take her son there to eat. The Kitchen was collaborating with a cooking program of some sort for youth, and I recommended she contact The Kitchen to ask about that program.

Resume Lady:

Wow....that's strong. My point was that if the class is not available at the Kitchen, it would be a bit expensive for an 11 year old to go. I am sorry that I wasn't clear in my post. Sometimes I type so fast, I miss a detail or two. So sorry for confusing and / or possibly offending you. unsure.gif

Since we're on the topic of cooking, I've been thinking of brining lasagna to a potluck. I made it before, but it lacked ... "delicious". It wasn't bad, it just wasn't delicious either. Anyone got any proven recipes?

A lot of the deliciousness comes from the sauce that you use. I always make my own sauce. Do you make your own or use a jar?

I used a jar, but I stuck in some ground beef. Got any good sauce recipes?
