Anyone have any mold problems?
I have some shiny spots on my ceiling. They obviously don't look like black mold, but I guess they COULD be slime mold. I just ordered a test kit to investigate further. I can't find any reason I would have mold.

last phase..... 3yrs?
single.
I checked the space above in the attic... clean and dry. Fully thing is, a majority appears over the tape/joint line in the sheetrock. We keep our inside about 76-77 durring the summer. I had an aquarium for about 2 years.... never had a spill, but there is some moisture theoretically, although it was very low I think. Had an overpowered gablefan for a year or two..... I don't know if any of these can be factors.....

Sounds like you have a interesting situation....
If you would like more information, you can contact my husband, Chris Gerber..he is an industrial hygenist specializing in Indoor Air Quality. Our company is called Environmental Consultants Group, we have been here in folsom for 6 yrs although Chris has been in the industry over 20 yrs.
His cell number is 275-6653. He investigates about 100 homes a year and may be familiar with this problem with your home and builder.

Thanks for the tip. I will probably call him in about a week - I ordered a testing kit in the mail, so if it doesn't turn out to be something my daughter threw up there making crafts I may need to have his expertise.

I just told my story to my sis-in-law who is in real estate. She told me she had once heard a similar story..... the sticky stuff was from some kind of SPIDER to glue its EGGS to the ceiling and you can guess what happened next! We're calling pest control in the morning to see if this is it.... I think I prefer mold.

Thanks for asking - no, I'm stumped.
The sample yeilded zero mold growth in the test kit. We had the pest control guy out, but he said it wasn't a bug issue.... my sceptisism with him though is I think he is basically a guy they pay to spray, his answer came too quickly and when I asked him specific things about spiders and termites, he basically said it is impossible for our house to have them (termites) because the house is too new and he isn't getting calls in this area for termites anyways. I could him shown him a picture I have of our house under construction with a termite hanging out on an exposed stud - but I think any more energy spent with him would be wasted. It might not be bug related, and there are some factors that would support that, but it is his logic and quickness to come to conclusions that bother me. He hardly looked at it. I won't go on about the kitchen greese conversation.... I think he didn't want to deal with it.
The part that stumps me is why does it seem to always be within 6" from a joint...

I hope and pray that you do not have mold. We had to evacuate our Provance home in May 2006 and while litigation drags on, we finally went into foreclosure. The problem was a linear discoloration on a downstairs ceiling along a 2x4. We were told that it was a poorly taped sheetrock seam and it was painted over x3. Apparently, water was coming in from a leaking window above and traveling down the exterior wall and oozing along into the downstairs ceiling. When this was finally opned up, it looked like a science project inside the wall: blck, green, white fuzzy stuff, and even shelf mushrooms growing on the frame. After the builder tried to repair the problem, the molds were dispersed throughout the house and all of our belongings were contaminated. Everyone in the family developed health problems (asthma, headaches, sinusitis, fatigue, mental fog, rashes) and we are still recovering! Seek professional help.
A handful of local mold victims are working to create a support group and are hoping to direct more public attention to this serious public health and safety issue. We have just started a meetup: http://toxicmold.mee...lendar/7787605/
Good luck to you!

Hi Lisa,
I am a nurse, wife, mom, and former homeowner - thanks to toxic mold! A handful of local mold victims are organizing a support group and are networking to get more media attention for this devastating public health & safety issue. We would love to have your husband Chris on board! Have him connect with us if he can help with our efforts at http://toxicmold.mee...lendar/7787605/
Thanks so much!
