I was over by Raley's yesterday, as I parked near The Ravine, I noticed it was closed, and there was a change of ownership notice on it.

I feel for the owners, who spent a lot of money putting the place together, but I think their reputation for poor service did them in.

A reputation of bad service gets around town pretty fast. The restaurant business is tough...there's more than just opening the doors, putting together a menu, etc. Besides, I swear Folsom's number of restaurants per capita seems astronomical. Or is it just my imagination, as usual ?? soapbox.gif

Well, as much as reputation has something to do with it; please note that there is a restaurant in town with a dismal reputation for service--yet it has maintained its' security quite well (Italian joint off of East Bidwell). I think it also has to due with the quality, the difficulty in replacing such cuisine which also helps to land some restaurants.

Everyone considering opening a restaurant should read Kitchen Confidential first

Great book! I read it after cw68 recommended it on a different post a while ago. I have a friend whose fiance is supposedly opening a restaurant, and I STRONGLY encouraged her to read it. She didn't, though. I think it was very educational.

Bummer about The Ravine. We never got a chance to try it. Even though there are a bunch of restaurants in Folsom, there are so few good ones.

The Ravine actually closed due to personal reasons. They were successful financially. Wish we were having that luck smile.gif

I don't think it is your imagination. I have come to the same realization that the number of restaurants seem to be getting out of hand around here. I know people like to eat out all the time nowadays, but with so many restuarants it is getting harder and harder to stand out from the crowd.

I can give you an update on The Ravine, as I am the new owner. The restaurant is not closed at the moment, but when you put a liqour license transfer sign in the window, may poeple think it is. The current plan is that we will take over at the end on the month (August). Our plan is to re-launch the restaurant the week of Sept 24th, when we will feature a new menu in the Restaurant and Bar/Patio. It will feature high quality dishes as the restaurant is known for, but we will be bring the prices down a couple of dollars. New wine list featuring local vineyards and offering a larger selection of bottled beers from around the world. Want the restaurant to be accessable to local trade.

We want to offer a variety of live music featuring local musicians.

I hope you all try the restaurant in the future, and give it a second chance. very aware of the service issues, as this forum is not the only place I have seen that said.

If you come in, please introduce yourselves to myself or my wife. Jonathan and Gita. Thanks!
