I subscribe to Brewmeisters mailing list, and got a quick update about a new beer/restaurant place opening up on East Bidwell.

Google found this:

I've heard now from a couple reps and distributors that there is a new place about to open that will pique my interest, Manderas in Folsom. After calling a few times and emailing the owner, I got a call back this morning and have a few details to share. I can't vouch for the establishment, as far as what they deliver, but if you're in the area you'll want to check this out.

"We've got about 120 beers, 20 on tap" says owner Brent Whited. From the sounds of it, they've got a 'no crap on tap' policy and expect to rotate all their taps, a bold move I applaud. Of the 100 bottled beers, Whited says they represent the best of the region, as well as the northwest and fine imports. Talking with the reps and distributors, it sounds as if there is a great Belgian beer selection.

Brent wanted to be sure it was known that this isn't just a beer bar. With a fine wine selection and a food menu featuring American, Asian and Italian dishes, this is a place for socializing, either with a loved one or a group of friends. I was actually struck by how much the word 'social' came up in our conversation, obviously a goal they have for the place.

There is a bar and seating for 50 guests. Additionally, I got the impression that there was a patio in back that would be made available in the future - maybe when weather is more inviting. Manderas will also have TVs for those interested (although he claims this is not a sports bar) and WiFi for those on a working lunch.

They open on Sunday, December 9th, at 11 AM. I'll be there soon enough to check on all this, as it sounds like the kind of place I was hoping the region had just a couple days ago.

Mark your calendars. Manderas will be hosting a Winter Beer tasting on December 13th, an aggressive and bold move if you ask me. I like it.

Sounds alright to me! However, I just can't place the location.. it's apparently across from Bank of America, but with a patio out back?

Sounds like a place I may spend an awful lot of time and money.

The potential certainly is there. BTW, new little strip mall (I guess?) under construction just east of FHS. Any idea what's going in there?? football2.gif

Mylo,

They've been gone for awhile now. You must not eat there very often or even drive by it.
and that place was real divy. It's gonna take some major over-hauling to make it into a decent bar & restaurant. Just to sit 50 people will require major modifications to what was once a Dairy Queen.
I would rather be Backpacking

Yeah, I admit, it's been a while. I've been getting my fish'n'chips fixes over at Streets of London. I've driven by, but haven't really noticed or paid too much attention to any renovations going on there.

That's okay though, this sounds like a suitable substitute.

According to the article I linked earlier, they're opening Sunday.. maybe I'll try and swing by and check the place out cheers.gif

Before it was King's, it was a Dairy Queen, and I believe that is what it was originally built as.

The one slide from a coming soon website looks classy, I wil be interested in seeing what the place is like when they open.

I just chatted with the guys at Brewmeister about it... the "no crap on tap" is serious. They don't want to serve Budweiser & etc. and in fact they are having trouble because of it. Some great mass market premium beers, like SNPA, are only available from local distributors as package deals with cheap stuff.

I'll be there Sun. night.

Wifi and beer... what a concept! As if people on the Internet weren't bellicose enough without alcohol laugh.gif

This, from the Brewmeister newsletter:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manderes, will be opening its doors this Sunday, 12/9/07, at 11:00am in Folsom, CA. at 402 East Bidwell.

Manderes caters to beer enthusiasts with 20 taps and more than 100 others available in bottles. Five Belgian style beers are on tap. Featured Breweries are LostCoast, Avery, Allagash, Westmalle and Chimay. The unofficial motto of this new establishment is "No Crap on Tap."

Besides all the great beer, there will be a modest amount of mid to high-end wines available for "others." The food is mainly hearty American fair: steak, ribs, pork chops, fried asparagus and mixed veggies; with a sprinkling of great Korean Food for the more adventurous of you. The dipping sauces are unique and homemade for the various offerings.

The Brewmeister is looking forward to working with Manderes on several events through the year!

I dropped in and met Brent, one of the owners, tonight.

He's really excited about the place. Wants to bring us some good food and good beer.

He says he'll become active in community concerns, too.

Anyway, totally redone interior, looks nice. Big screen TV's above the bar. Lots of beer.

They open Sunday at 11am. I may pop by for a cold one, though not that early.

Anyone else?
