Permanent closure of the road over the Folsom Dam is absolutely absurd! Tens of thousands of motorists will be rerouted through the streets of Folsom because of political idiocy between Reps Matusi and Ose!
Terrorist threats, baloney!
I hope everyone who reads this will protest this by honking there horn as they drive by City Hall and all the way down Natoma and Riley.

Unfortunately, the decision to close the dam road (how I love saying those two words together!) is a *federal* decision and not a local decision. Honking your horn in front of City Hall is "punishing" the wrong party. IMHO, a more productive action would be to contact *ALL* of your representatives at *ALL* levels of government to secure funding for a replacement road/bridge.

Personally, I'd love to see Oak Avenue Parkway connected across the river, but I bet some engineer will tell me why that isn't a good idea.

I agree. The Dam road was never intended for public use. The fact that we've been able to use it all this time has been very beneficial to us. It was a federal decision, and it's for our own good. The safety of 1,000,000 Sacramento residents cannot be compromised.

The way to go is write whoever you can to get the new bridge approved. Whether it's on Oak or next to the Dam, it needs to be done. Let's get that bridge approved, as soon as possible!

I don't know why they didn't close the "Dam road" immediately after 9/11.

I don't think closing the dam road will prevent anyone from damaging it if that is their intention. If they truly wanted to protect the Dam, they would close Folsom Lake to all boats.

Closing the road is a safety precaution for everyone. Better safe than sorry.

I have family living in the Sacramento area. I don't have any complaints about them closing the dam road. I would rather be inconvenienced and my family members safe anytime.

Oak Avenue and a new bridge being built is the better route.

At the City Council meeting on Tuesday (2-25) the mayor announced that he and ??? are going to Washington to protest the closing of the dam road (I love saying that too!)

I doubt that this will do much good except that possibly it might get the new proposed bridge and AUBURN DAM built SOONER!!!!

And John, he ALSO urged everyone to write to their CA legislators and tell them how you feel. Those would be Boxer, Feinstein, Cox, Ose, Matsui, and as well, Ridge, Ashcroft, and President Bush, and anyone else you can think of!

THERE ARE JILLION LOCATIONS THAT A "TERRORIST" WOULD TARGET BEFORE THE PUNY FOLSOM DAM. BESIDES, CLOSING THE ROAD DOES NOT PROTECT THE DAM FROM BOATS ON THE LAKE, MISSLES FROM THE SHORE, A LITTLE CESSNA DROPPING A 'PACKAGE', ETC.

City Hall has nothing to do with this! You think they are happy about it???

There are a million targets in the US for terrorists to hit, and this is one of them... there should have been a by-pass bridge YEARS ago, and letting the public over it all this time only was a quick fix. I am in support of the bridge closure, as much of a traffic nightmare it will cause.

Write to Matsui, Ose, Doolittle, Boxer, Feinstein, Ortiz... get this new bridge built NOW!

I believe the Mayor, vice mayor and the chief of police (possibly other) are
heading to Washington to try and fight the DAM problem. They are going to
attempt to get the road reopened.

We'll see what happens. I firmly believe the best course of action is to expidite the new bridge. Write to Representative Ose and show your support to get a bridge in here immediately. Opening up the dam road agin will result in a security threat as well as avoiding the real situation - the need for a bridge. We needed this thing 30 years ago... they need to make a 4-6 lane bridge and make Folsom Auburn a major thoroughfair to Roseville, perhaps even a freeway while we can. Almost that whole artery is not developed yet, and now is our only opportunity to make a long-needed 50/80 connector.

Those of you old-timers may remember that Hazel Blvd. was originally designed to be a 50/80 connector, and then Gov. Brown decided to scrap that idea and invest in other things. Now Hazel Blvd has no room to grow and is always jammed full of traffic. There is no option to make that road a freeway now as it would cost billions to buy out the home owners.

This is happening all over again - we need that 50-80 connector, as is evident by the dam road closure. Opening up the dam road again will only cover the ears of elected officials, making it look like everything's OK. It's not OK, we need a large bridge over the American River and a major artery connecting to Roseville! Now is our only chance of doing this!

How about opening the dam road again and charging $1.00 toll each way.
Use the toll to put 24 hour security patrols on the bridge and water, until
the new bridge can be built.

Just an idea.

a $1 toll is an interesting idea. I still think a bridge is needed, but maybe that is the way to go until a bridge is built. The hard part is being strict to watch every vehicle crossing the bridge... how would you do that without creating another logjam? An interesting proposal though, I wouldn't mind at least exploring that option.
