I am interested in this because there are often folks that make dire predictions that property values will fall, etc. etc., just as the folks that predicted that bringing lightrail to Folsom will bring crime. My friend who has a home near Thunder Valley (about 3 miles) saw his home appriciate greatly. Now that could have been because most prop values apprictated greatly anywhere in Lincoln, but all the naysayers were dead wrong about the values dropping soley because of Thunder Valley.

Exactly - and all the talk about 'Indian self-reliance' as though gambling is the only way to attain it. Puh-leez.

My thought is that if the laws of the land allows them to establish a Casino, make a profit, more power to them. Some of the tribes in Southern CA have made amazing improvements in the life, education, and healthcare of their peoples. What impresses me is that the lobbyists of Reno/Tahoe and Vegas (they have alllooot of $$) have been very unsuccessful in curbing this wildfire of Casinos all over.

Tahoe saw this coming a long time ago and changed the entire appeal to the area to be more of a luxury ski resort. Good move in my opinion. It's got natural beauty, and the whole area was getting run down. Now it's awesome.
Reno is screwed. If I were a city planner there I would seriously consider switching tactics - they are not going to be competitive in attracting large casinos anymore. They should tear down the existing vacant casinos, create open areas that are not attractive to hobos and drug addicts. More golf courses, more parks, more attractions that are not related to gambling. Reno has been hurt the most by Indian casinos.

Bullsye! Reno has a potential with River rafting and other sports, but there are waaaaay more bums and drugs in Reno than in Tahoe. Thunder Valley is PACKED on the weekends with folks waiting in line to get to their fav slots. Imagine all those customers Thunder is taking away from Reno.
Now I am just curious to see what moves Tahoe casinos make to attarct folk. Now the Senior citizen buses that run from bay Area to Thunder Valley have a seond choice; Shingle Springs.

in all the years I've been to Tahoe, I've never once stepped into a Casino there, but I've camped in the area, gone to play in the snow and done a bunch of motorcycle rides - its sure a magnificant beautiful area
just booked a week of camping near Emerald Bay this summer
there's so much more to do in Tahoe then gambling... I've never been interested in going there for that, but thats just me, I'm not into gambling - I'd rather light my money on fire and roast marshmellows on it then give it to casinos

the only thing I like about Reno is that they hold Street Vibrations there and its close to Virginia City
always cracks me up seeing the old folks there gambling, smoking like a chimney, while hooked up to an oxygen tank...

I know. I think that they have tour buses that go there, but there has been a huge reduction with the additions of Cache Creek and Thunder Valley.

My wife and I like to go to Thunder Valley for the great food and Penny Slot Machines.
The Thunder Valley Cafe is good and has great prices. They have a Bakery section in the front that just about takes your breath away. The cakes are to die for and the other treats are just as hard to resist. We've always had excellent service too.
They have a great buffet with all kinds of sea food, but we don't do that too often because we tend to stuff ourselves, it's so good.
After we eat we go to gamble our pennies away and the last time we went my wife won $40.00 after playing a penny slot machine for only about 3 minutes! I couldn't believe it!!! We left right away and went to the movies with the winnings.
The only draw back is all the smoke. Since we are not smokers, it's hard for us to stay too long without getting headaches. After we leave our clothes smell like smoke and it's disgusting.
That's why we don't go very often.....sadly.

I suppose the people that gamble a lot probably smoke a lot too, perhaps they are 2 vices that go hand in hand.
