I enjoy anything creative, artistic and thought provoking. Music ranges from Andrea Boccelli to some hiphop groups. I enjoy dancing, singing and life in general. I was saddened to see "Ace Hardware Store" on East Bidwell close. That's too bad. sad.gif

I'm asking all Folsom residents to please support the mom and pop stores in our city. They need our business. Lowes and Home Depot is great but let's not forget to give some business to the little mom and pop store down the road.

Instead of running to Starbucks, let's drive by JavaNation or Bella Bru.

Instead of going to McDonalds or Burger King, let's swing by Willies or the Hotdog stand by Blockbuster. What about the Fish & Chips Restaurant on East Bidwell. That is also a mom & pop store that has been hanging in there. Let's help them stay in business.

Instead of running to Macaroni & Grill for pasta, go to Visconti's or Lanza's!

Puh leeeez........let's keep the mom and pop stores alive. They are what gives this wonderful city it's character and home town feel.

Give the little mom and pop stores some of our business so they don't close shop and we end up with the same stores every suburban city in the United States has. No character.

I would hate to see Folsom look like every other suburban neighborhood in California.

In fact, I went to Disney Land with my kids a couple of years ago and while I was in Southern California, I was feeling deja vu at every city we stopped in for a bite to eat. The same Home Depot, Macaroni & Grill, Black Angus, Old Navy, Borders..yada yada yada.... Do they have some kind of Shopping Plaza franchise going on? I thought it would be nice to get away for a different scene but we ended feeling like we were in Roseville, Rocklin or Folsom.

Let's keep our character Folsom. Let's save our mom and pop stores!

Definitely. Some of my favorite local businesses include Jenny's Palace (best Chinese in town), Willie's Burgers, and I'll always go to Tasty Time before Baskin Robbins! tongue.gif

Yes I will. I will keep that in mind.

OctoberLily - thanks for bringing that up.

Speaking of food, my in-laws are working hard trying to open the first Vietnamese restaurant in Folsom.

Hi fellow Folsomites!

I too am in favor of supporting the Little Stores and orther small businesses in and around Folsom. And I am doing something about it with a web site that promotes ALL local businesses equally.

Rather than go on about it, I invite you to take a look and see for yourself

My favorite place to eat breakfast or lunch is Gold Miner Cafe on East Bidwell. The owner Kay and staff are friendly and the service is wonderful. The menu has a lot to offer and everything is wonderful. If it's grits or biscuts and gravy you crave they've got it!

Willies looked pretty unsanitary the last times I went and the service was nothing special so I don't go back. The health inspection report I saw online only confirmed my suspicions, so I am not going back and risking getting sick.
I tried the hot dog place by Blockbuster and it was not good. Pretty plain hot dogs and the chili wasn't good. The only places I have had really good hotdogs were around Citrus Heights. One on Madison near American River College and one in another location that has since closed.
The Burger King and McDonalds on East Bidwell also seemed filthy the last times I were there. On the otherhand the BK and McDonald's on Iron Pont by the Outlets seem pretty good.
I have liked some other mom and pop restaurants in Folsom though. I liked the little Terriyaki fast food place by Big 5 etc..
They need to offer something you can't get from chains and not expect people to patronize them out of guilt or pity.
The ones that do will be successful and will get lots of word of mouth (Jennies Palace etc.).
