Have to tried www.petfinder.org? It will have a much bigger audience than here. Although, you may have to ask a rescue group do a courtesy listing for you... I'm not sure about that

I don't care about papers, pure bred, etc. I care about him not going to the pound. If you want to drop the price to zero, I'd love to set up a play date with Sugar (our current pooch) and Cocoa to see if they get along.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

You would be suprised, the roseville pound charges almost 200.00 for adoption fee's, and you don't know where the dogs have been etc. I am charging more for the crate and the retractable leash that he comes with. Believe me I care were he goes.

A rescue is not the pound. They will also care where he goes. They charge money for their service because they aren't going to stick a needle in your dog or sell it for meat.
But for that matter, if you did get a dog at the pound, where could it possibly have been that's worse?

You are absolutely right, a rescue is not like a pound. A rescue will conduct a comprehensive interview, and often do an in home inspection before adopting out an animal. Also, a rescue will usually require you to return the animal back to them, in the case that you can not take care of it anymore. Generally rescues are of the "no kill" variety, at least if the animal is remotely adoptable. I know that I sleep better at night knowing I can take my cats back to Folsom Feline Rescue if we loose our jobs and/or home.
A responsible breeder will also take back a dog/cat/rat/guinea pig/etc. if you fall on hard times. You will normally sign a contract that you relinquish the pet back to them in a dire situation. This is not the case with BYB (back yard breeders) that want to make a buck selling puppies/kittens.
I have not seen it locally, but you can run into the problem of a hoarder in the disguise of a rescue. In this case, the rescuer will never ever find anyone that meets their standards, and keeps all the animals they have. Its a sad mental illness, so look into a rescue org as much as they look into you.
If you are in the unfortunate position that you can no longer take care of Cocoa, and she did not come from a rescue or reputable breeder, you may have some luck with a breed specific rescue organization. They should be able to assure you that they will do their best to find a home for Cocoa, while you are unable too.
Its upsetting that the market is saturated with unwanted purebred and mixed breed animals (especially of the lab variety), but it is. This makes is very tough to get your pet into a rescue organization within your short time period. If you do end up taking Cocoa to the pound, I recommend that you let all the rescues within 100 miles know about it, and perhaps they will pick her up.
http://www.labrescue.org/ is a SF based Lab rescue.
http://www.cc-labres...rg/top_dog.html is a Central CA lab rescue.
Or perhaps you could find a rescue at your new location.

If Jolene's dog Sugar is a good match that might be your best option if Cocoa hasn't found a home by the time you move.
I adopted two pure bred Aussies from a family for zilch seven years ago! They were just glad I would take both dogs. They came with papers, crates, etc. You could always put the crate on Craigslist or try selling it at the garage sale. If you can get the money that way then it might be easier for Cocoa to find a new home in these low economic times. Just my .02.

We have a pure bred Aussie, also, that we adopted almost two years ago. He was too much for the family that purchased him from a breeder, for around $1000. The family had college-age kids that did not have enough time for the dog, and the parents worked long hours. He has been a perfect fit for our family. We did not pay anything for our dog. He came neutered, current shots, completely house-broken, with chew toys and a big bag of dog food, plus a huge crate, that to this day, is where he loves to nap.

#1 Lake Bowl Drunk: That's not a very nice comment at this time of the a.m..............this is a 7-month old puppy he's trying to place in a good home.
If we had our own home, and could have pets, I'd certainly consider taking him on......AND THE NAME "COCOA" IS AN ABSOLUTELY PERFECT NAME FOR THE LITTLE CUTIE!!!!
Sure hope you can place him with a caring/loving person/family.

I think you'll find he's a trolliferator and you can safely ignore him.

I know that most pounds and rescue groups charge for their adoptions, but most of their animals are NEUTERED and SPAYED and their SHOTS are up to date. You've already mentioned that your dog is not neutered. Has he had his shots? Rabies? Is he licensed? These are all costs that a new owner will have to incur if you have not taken care of it.
Again, I wouldn't care about the crate or the leash. You can keep those and sell them on Craigslist... I would LOVE to give this puppy a good home, but seeing as how you're ABANDONING him, I can't bring myself to even give you a dime for him.
Again, if you drop the price to zero, I'd love to set up a meeting with our current dog to see if they get along. If they do, Cocoa will have a long and fullfilling life with us.
And full disclaimer to those those who remember our Sugar debacle from last year. Yes, we once did try to give up our dog, but only because she was in her crate 12 hours a day and we didn't feel this was fair to HER. We tried to find a good home for her (and had some GREAT takers) and we weren't charging, we were providing everything for free and we were only interested in giving her to people we felt would give her the life she deserved.
Ultimately, Jesse just could not give her up and we changed our lifestyle in order to keep her and I am extremely glad that we did. One of the best decisions we've made in a long, long time.
Having gone through that, I know exactly how it is to feel like you "HAVE TO" give up a pet. I also know how easy it is to change your own life so that the animal can be taken care of properly. So, forgive me if my patience with this kind of situation is low and I'm a little snippy.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.
