I have to wonder what happened to the story on the situation?
I commonly happen upon over heard conversations of kids who mean well, seem to have nice lives, yet still talk about getting high or drinking. I presume these are Oak Ridge High kids cause of the shirts they wear in El Dorado Hills.

It was in an editorial from the Mountain Democrat. I have heard this story from three separate people but in never seriously inquired about it. About some Oak Ridge High School students (children) partying and doing drugs.
At first I was thinking "no way". But then I remember when in the local El Dorado Hills Grocery Store that some high school kids were talking about "getting away with drinking" and wanting to "buy some" from other kids who went to Oak Ridge.
I"ll try to find the story or editorial.

Keeping teens in a safe environment after school and weekends is the key to limiting bad behavior, but in some instances teens will be teens and may engage in experimental drinking or drugs no matter what u teach them...

Yes I moved off the Shingle Springs Rancheria (Off the Reservation) and moved to Serrano, El Dorado Hills. Im pretty traditional (minus the three ovens and microwave that comes with the house). I dont drink, do drugs, and commonly dont use language other than in our native tongue. But we all try.
I like to think (believed at a time) Serrano is a safe community yet I see crime here is just as apparent as any other community. But probably more focused here cause its "news worthy". Day to day I wish all the kids well around our community. But my family and its safety come first. And yes.. we do the best we can. I have family friends who moved off the Reservation in UAIC (you would know it as Thunder Valley Casino) they moved to Serrano and they hate.. HATE living here. So much so, they created their own school cause they dont like the School District here. They know its not any safer than the reservation and I have come to think of that as well.

I've often heard of Oak Ridge referred to as Smoke Ridge and more recently Coke Ridge FWIW.

Yes I have heard of "Coke Ridge High" as well.. its pretty pathetic, could be true , but still sad that I have heard that and it seems to have stuck. On our reservation back in nevada there is a "no tolerance" zone in the whole reservation. Looks like non-natives have just as many problems as on the tribal lands as well. Our value systems are different but somethings are just wrong. Native and non-native alike.

FWIW, those go back to my freshman year in high school, when Oak Ridge was first built. They are no more descriptive than any other name meant to slam a school - Remember 'Harlem Johnson'? 'Bloodbank'? 'Bit@es & Ho's'?

On the other hand, while Serrano and EDH in general are not the crime free utopias some people assume them to be, crime and violence are FAR less prevalent here than they are in many parts of the greater Sacramento region.

Any time you have volunteer "talks" it's mostly for the citizens that are concerned, but rarely touches the students that actually drink/do drugs...
If you really want to help the parents of students who drink, make it part of the curriculum.....Have the parents sign contracts of their child's behavior and if they get caught fine the parents and punish the students......Also, have a mandatory meeting with all parents the importance of modeling good parenting.....Such as not drinking like a fish at the annual block party; not letting underage kids have a beer to be the cool dad, and telling your child the consequences if they are caught drinking or doing drugs....

The ones that always surprise me are the parents that host cocktail parties for their kids and their kids friends... or drink with their kids so their kids "know how to handle themselves when they get to college."

Yeah I heard they searched a student in Marina Village school, then somewhere along the line of the accusation it was kids just mentioning it (no drugs were found) but sometimes Kids "hint" to other kids.

When I was going to Marina alot of the kids (especially kids from pondo etc) referred to oak ridge as "coke ridge". I wasn't ever lead to believe it was because they had anymore drugs then other schools but mainly because the people would assume the El Dorado Hills kids had more money for the more expensive drugs. Although, I don't think that theory ever stood much grounds other then just a "funny saying" to some kids.
