DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint Makes Roads Safer

This is what happened in May:
Folsom Police Take DUI Drivers Off The Street, Make One Drug Arrest

I'll be out there later to make some video of the action. I hope there isn't any action, but some people just can't help themselves.

is it a law they have to announce it?

or is it just a matter of policy?

It's a matter of policy and announcing it makes a deterrent affect in itself. Public awareness is always good policy.

Now this IS something the Police can do other than giving tickets out to people right outside their own homes....IMHO.

Greenback right after the split from Madison. My friend and I looped back because we wanted to get stopped. They were still setting up or they knew we hadn't a drop of alcohol in our systems. rolleyes.gif

With two children under 3 I don't get out much anymore, but I give my husband the hallpass pretty frequently and he says it takes a good hour to get a cab in old town on the weekend. No wonder people are drinking and driving. If we are expecting people to be responsible enough not to drive and drive than we need to provide acceptable alternatives.

I believe that it is the law that they have to publish the time and location of the checkpoint. And they also have to make sure that there is some sort of turn out before the checkpoint so that you are not automatically funneled into it.

I could be slightly off on these point but I think I read this a few times and the have to do those things to avoid lawsuits for entrapment, etc.

That is NO excuse for driving while intoxicated! What about getting a buddy to be the designated driver and alternate the job between the group that goes out. It is a shame that people have to drink to intoxication anyway. Those who drink and drive deserve to get caught!
