We tried it and its nice! Beautifully decorated inside. I don't think its ever looked as comfortable and that's a hard place to decorate. Cozy, but with a nice looking bar area. Lunch specials are $6.50 and include a good rye bread and a herb butter. I had the chicken soup, which was obviously home-made and nice. We also had the salsbury meatballs over noodles. Plentiful and obviously freshly made and home-made. Service was very nice. I think they'll do well. When it gets hotter in summer though they may want to lighten the menu. But I do want to try their borscht. I have heard the red cabbage is very good too. Nice addition to Sutter Street. And for the beer drinkers, I think I overheard the waitress telling another table they had just gotten their license.

Thanks for the review! We've been wanting to try it, and we'll definitely have to now!

To Bill Z and others, yea they have an online menu available it is
www.geocites.com/old-europetogo or something like that ? I am not a computer guru!! hehe
It was posted on the (origional) thread about old europe a few posts down, why a new thread was started, I have NO clue, but what the heck... hehe. Chef Thomas is and has been a friend of mine since they first appeared in Folsom, and I truly do wish him as the others there continued good fortune. It is truly old world food as very few of us know it here, that is unless you have visited any countries in Europe as I know several of you have in your lifetime. I also believe that the present location is a great addition to the cultural diversity in the (Old Town) that will be more advanced as time goes on with the expansion and refurbishment of Sutter Street.

I had lunch there yesterday and I will say I thought it was very good. I had the pasta and meatball lunch special. The pasta lunch special offers your choice of pasta and 6 or so varied sauces to put on your pasta. They also have 3 or more burgers from 1/3 LB. up to a One Pounder !! Of course there is a wide variety of all the different types of European dishes. All very reasonable in pricing. Also if you go in ask and see if they have Chef Thomas' special French clam soup. Folks this soup is outstanding ! like nothing you have had before. It's kind of a cross between French onion soup and a Manhatten clam soup. as a matter of fact, I went in early in the morning and watched how he makes this soup, only if I can duplicate this at home, I'd be a happy guy !! The interior design is comforting and compliment the food very well. Give them a try, I don't think you will be dissapointed...

We went there for dinner on Friday night. We sat at the bar and the service was outstanding, the staff is very friendly and even gave us a beer and glass of wine on the house. Granted the place was not too crowded, but good service is still always appreciated.
My wife had the Swedish meatballs, and I had the Berliner Currywurst with the red cabbage, and we had a side of potato salad to split. The potato salad was the only so-so part of the meal, it tasted like something you would find in a carton at the store, I was expecting something a bit different.
The currywurst was great. It was not exactly what you would find at an imbiss stand in Germany, definitely a bit fancier, and the red cabbage was fantastic. The Swedish meatballs were also good. We finished off the meal with the strudel and ice cream, and then you had to roll us out of there.
We will definitely go back again!

Currywurst? CURRYWURST! Gawd, I've got to get there! How was it different from what you would get at an Imbiss stand in Berlin? My first meal outside of an Army barracks in Germany was Currywurst, pommes frites and bier. When I finally went back in 2000 that was also my first meal. Yummm!

I'm used to the bratwurst being grilled and sliced with just the curry ketchup on top, this was grilled whole and included a bit of sour cream and fried onions on top. It was really good!
