ABC suspends Folsom bar's alcohol license
Published Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009
One of Folsom's better-known saloons won't be able to sell alcohol for five days after being tagged for multiple violations.
The state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has suspended the alcohol service license of Powerhouse Pub on Sutter Street and will post a notice of the action today. The pub also has been fined.
The five-day suspension was ordered because state officials said the bar allowed a minor to be on the premises in 2006. Minors are not allowed in a place of business where only alcohol is served.
"The department had filed two separate accusations on this particular licensed business," said ABC spokesman John Carr. "One was for permitting a minor to enter and remain in the premises, which has led to the five-day suspension. The other accusation that led to a $6,000 fine was for a contaminated bottle and offering a coupon for a free drink."
A bar cannot advertise a free drink in California.
The notice of suspension will be attached to the business at 614 Sutter St. today at 11 a.m. The business can remain open during the suspension, Carr said.

yeah that is a weird one - it took ABC 3 years to impose a fine for something that happened that long ago?
and what is a contaminated drink?
and how come a bar can't offer a free drink deal but casino's can pass out free drinks all day long?

yeah going to a bar without beer or booze kinda defeats the purpose of going there.... but with only a 5 day suspension they'll be ok and back in up to speed within the week
I haven't been there in over 4 years now, as much as I like the music, I don't dig the meat market scene and as a married guy, that's not for me... but don't get me wrong, it is a cool place.

Not 100% certain, but I believe that is the accusation that comes when they suspect a bar has refilled a liquor bottle, which is illegal.
I haven't been to Powerhouse in a while, but I took my wife to Scarlett's last Thursday night. It wasn't meat market at all. In fact, most of the folks were older.

Steve...when you get older, it's called a "meet" market!
Thursdays is country night at powerhouse? Do they still do karaoke? What they really need is country Karaoke night!

The one time I tried to go there there wasn't enough room for my elbows so I left.

Dang it!! I was hoping they would do the Johnny Cash look-alike/sing-alike contest there.
by the way, last night the Historic District Commmission decided to approve the streetscape without the community meeting to present and discuss the plans (which was a condition of approval of the first designs). They asked legal council if they could just consider the meeting they held last night the public hearing. Council said, "sure!" so, wow, there goes the street. Soon you will all be able to stroll down something that looks like any other remade city in California.

I was sent a copy of the final plans for the entire new streetscape layout - if you'd like to get a copy, PM me with your email address and I'll pass them along
