Story: Instant Message Predator Arrested
The story isn't over yet.
Saw this story on Fox40 news. I wouldn't exactly call the girl smart as she kept talking to the creep on IM and waited for a day to even tell her Mom what was going on. Apparently the guy lived about .5 miles from their house.
10 yr old on a PC and Mom has no idea what she is even doing? Geesh. And from the way she talked on the news she seemed more like 6 than 10 from the way she spoke.

Saw this too and was actually most surprised at the response the girl gave when the newscaster asked if she had wanted to talk to her parents about the guy. She said she didn't want to tell them, but it wasn't because she was afraid of what they might do or say, but because she wanted to continue to talk to the guy!!!

This is a case of a mother who really does not monitor her children in the home, she and a sibling are out of the house for hours at a time and the mother never checks on them. I can write this because I know for a fact because they are at my house and I have never even met the mother. (You ask why I don't introduce myself, the mom does not come out for this to happen). You need to watch your kids, you need to know who they are with when they leave your home. My kids never go out the door without my knowing where they are going and who they are with. You don't have to have instant messenger on your computer. This could of turned ugly, the child wanted to keep talking to the predator. I hope the mother opens her eyes, comes out and meets the neighbors who have her children in their yards day after day.

On the news the Mom was in the dark shadows hiding her identity because:
A: she didn't want other online predators going after her kid.
B: she didn't want everybody to know who she is and what a loser parent she is.
Well, since she had no clue about what her kid was doing answer "A" is out. Therefore it must be "B" then.

We had a community meeting/presentation about this a couple of years ago, featuring speakers from Folsom PD and the FBI. Kids are innocent and naive. They feel they are safe and don't see anything wrong with making friends online. The predators test and groom them, slowly gaining their confidence, then asking them to do things which seem harmless enough at first, but get gradually more daring and graphic and dangerous.
Parents, know and monitor what your kids are doing. THEY NEED SUPERVISION!

The news report said the creep was sending graphic IM's and sending naked pics of himself from the get go. If the kid did not know this was wrong she should be removed from that home ASAP.

It's just someone who needs a serious can of whoop-*** opened on him... then lock him up and feed him to the sisters (think Shawshank).
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

The arrestee's name being reported is Gerald Ivor Edwards. Not the guy in this picture.

Plus...I just scanned Gerald Ivor Edwards in the Court system. He has been arrested
for DUI, suspended license 6 times since 1988 and twice for felony wienie waggling. How
was this puke even out on the streets...

That guy comes up because his alias is Jerry Edwards.
I don't find this Gerald Edwards registered in Folsom. It appears he was living with his mother, because they interviewed her on the news last night.
Glad he got picked up. Hope that mom revises her children's ability to access the Internet.
