Did anyone else get a surprise call today that their kids won't be going to Russell Ranch due to budget cuts? It would sure be nice if our government could act responsibly with our taxes for a change

I haven't gotten any news from the school at all.....I've been waiting to get a supply list and a letter telling me who my kids' teachers will be. San Juan Unified, at least Gold River Discovery Center, got their kids' teacher assignments the last week of June. I hope we don't get a "sorry to tell you that we no longer can afford teachers, therefore you will be receiving books along with a suggested study plan......." letter. To tell you the truth, I can't say that I'd be shocked.......annoyed yes, but not shocked!

I have heard of a family whose 3rd grader is being sent to Gold Ridge even though they live in Russell Ranch boundaries. They were just notified today. This is extra-frustrating as this family has a 1st grader who is able to go to RR...it would be stressful to have 2 schools to deal with.

I can't figure how RR is already impacted if Gallardo can fit 780 students this year....seems like different schools have a different definition of "full."

That is terrible. Was your child a student there last year? We attend Empire Oaks haven't heard anything yet. The kids check the mail several times a day looking for "the letter". Best to you!

Where r u getting that number of 780 students? There is supposedly only one apt. complex that can attend Gallardo with the boundary change? What gives?

Russel Ranch is not closing...Where will the children go? Can't be true.....Also, I wonder why there cap on enrollment is so low compared to Gallardo if that's the case???? What about Grandfathering...I would fight the district on that one...If a sibling is there u should have priority for enrollment...

We're in San Juan Unified and haven't received our class assignment yet. Though, we did receive a call this morning letting us know that we will receive them next week.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY GIRL.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

I have heard from several Gallardo parents that last year they had 740 and this year 780. I have no idea why their numbers are so high.

Quite possibly because they and other schools are taking in a huge amount of kids who have been to Brighton and Phoenix in the past and parents can't afford those schools right now.

Also, there are quite a few familys that do not live in Gallardo's boundaries, but still wanted their kids at that school ( I guess the high API test scores impress them, even though most of Folsom scores are high).

Our daughter goes to Gallardo, and we did not get our teacher assignments until Saturday (pretty much the same the last few years)... I was told (unofficially, but by a teacher) it is purposely done to keep the parent requests/changes to a minimum. The more time you give the parents, the more likely they might try to switch their kids to a teacher with a "better" reputation...

So we've tried everything we can but sadly there is no room for my son at Russell Ranch and he has started at Gold Ridge. I'm sure this is a good school too but he should be able to go to the school directly across the street. Especially when there are students from outside the district who are allowed to attend because their parents work in the area.

I think the district is required to provide your family transportation since you are not on "school choice."
