Just read today that they're ending the annual pass thing until they figure out how much they're going to raise the prices.

I see, that's very good to know then.

Raise the prices! Are you kidding me... I just took my boat out to Folsom for the first (and last) time this year a couple of weeks ago and it was like $16 or $18. A complete ripoff...

I do wonder if there is some idiocy here... thinking revenue will automatically increase if you increase the fee, without taking into account the fact that attendance declines.

Like you, went for a few hours here and there to either people\nature watch, biking or swimming and at times and felt the full day $8 fee was too much then I got an annual pass for the boat\car and use the parks around here and elsewhere alot more now. Plus I dont have to worry about a ticket for not paying access fees.
btw Folsom Point makes a great lunch spot.

I have to say I agree with your sentiments. We live ACROSS THE STREET from Negro Bar, and the first time we went we were told it would be $8 to park and we turned away and never went back. We were not looking for a day at the river, rather a "walk along the water". My kids are still young, so even across the street is a little dangerous for them to try to travel by foot. I get why an hourly rate isn't necessarily logical, but there has to be another option???

I don't think there would be any way to enforce a less than all-day pass.
I hope that with all the threatened closings of State parks because of the deficit the Folsom Lake Recreation Areas will remain open.

it is a "parking fee", on foot or bicycle, entrance into Folsom Lake Rec areas is free.
As for $16-$18 to launch your boat being a total ripoff, go check out the cost of storing your boat at a marina. $18 seems pretty reasonable to me.
As for those that want hourly fees, be an entrepreneur, find some land near the entrance, buy it, build a parking lot with parking meters, staff it so as to write tickets to those that stay past their alotted meter time and see how much you have to set the parking fees to make a profit.
