Yesterday, our power on Willow Creek, up by Randall, was out for about 5 hours. Not exactly pleasant in that heat. On Saturday night it was out two different times because of some transformer fire.

Was yesterday's outage related to that? If not, what was the cause?

Hmm, I live near there and my power was out for only about an hour or so.

It went out maybe around 5:15 (I got home at 5:05 and it was on, but it went out shortly after getting home when I was thinking about what to cook for dinner. The power failure made me decide to go get some fastfood instead. I think power came back on around 6:30 at my house. I was out of town on Saturday so I wasn't around for that failure, but I could tell there had been a failure as I had to reset a lot of clocks.

It has been frustrating! I don't know why, but it seems like we have power issues every August every year. I didn't see any crews out working anywhere last nigt. The area affected wasn't that big.

Ours was out from about 4:30 to 9:30pm. We too ended up going out for Chinese since we had everything all ready to cook a nice dinner and couldn't use the electric stove.

I know a couple of years ago, a transformer blew down near the water treatment plant during the summer.

That's where we are, right by the water treatment plant.

Thanks!
It was definitely NINE thirty though, not 8:30pm. ;-)
The next question is did they fix or replace the bad cable or just get the power back on?

FOLSOM, Calif. -- Power has been restored to 290 Sacramento Municipal Utility District customers after an outage Monday night.

The outage started at about 4 p.m. near Randall Drive and Willow Creek.

Crews were able to restore power at about 8:30 p.m.

A SMUD spokesperson said the cause for the outage is a bad underground cable.

The power was definitely not restored until 9:30 at our house and we were sweating it out in the house! SMUD was working on the cables over at Blanche Sprentz school.

I don't doubt you, but I find it odd that my power failed later than yours and returned much earlier than yours. Maybe mine was knocked off deliberately by SMUD as part of the work being done on your circuit so it was switched back on when they didn't need it to be down any longer.

Here ya go,
Ours was out from 4:30 until 9:30.
I called SMUD at 5:30 and recieved a message that 376 households were affected and that power would be restored at 8:00.
8:45- still no power. Called SMUD and recieved a message that power was still out and ETA on restoration would be 11:59 pm. At this time only 290 households were still affected.
Our power has been out 3 times in as many days....gets REALLY frustrating!

The only thing one can do, when the power goes out for extended periods of time, is to go to a store or shopping mall where it's cool....and don't open your refrigerator! Not even once!

Did you lose any food because of this?

It sucks, but what else can you do...maybe jump in the pool, if you have one. We don't....and I hate it when it's hot and the power goes out. dry.gif

Same thing again last night! It was out from about 6pm till the middle of the night. What the heck is going on?

I'm sick of spending money to go out to dinner because I can't cook dinner. Not to mention how delightful it was trying to sleep last night without even a fan on.

Is SMUD going to fix this problem or not?

that is pretty bad, SMUD should at least discount your bill for the inconviniences

Chef Raven,
You must live nearby. I just got through posting this when I saw your post.
What the hell is going on with SMUD in the Willowcreek area??? This is the third time we have had a long term power outage in as many weeks!!!! The power was already out when I got home at 5:00 pm and didn't come back on until 4:30 am this morning. SMUD seems to be totally incompetant in fixing this damn transformer and meanwhile we're stuck in over 100 degree weather and losing hundreds of dollars in food not to mention all the other inconveniences having absolutely NO power sticks you with. I am really getting fed up with this. I called SMUD this morning and was kept on hold for an hour while they tried to figure out what the problem was. They still don't know. It is always just this area of Folsom that is affected.I am filing a claim with them and I suggest any others who are in the area do the same.
